Arlen Specter's cancer has returned.
He's been able to win so far. Politics aside, lets send good thoughts his way.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/04/15/arlen.specter/index.html

"I was surprised by the PET scan findings because I have been feeling so good," Specter said in the statement. "I consider this just another bump in the road to a successful recovery from Hodgkin's, from which I've been symptom-free for three years."

Specter had no symptoms besides the findings in the scan, the statement said. "Based on the location of the recurrence and the absence of symptoms, his lymphoma is considered stage IIIA. This is significantly less advanced than his Hodgkin's disease when it was originally diagnosed in 2005, when it was stage IVB."

"Specter has an excellent chance of again achieving a complete remission of his Hodgkin's disease," said the senator's oncologist, John H. Glick of the University of Pennsylvania's Abramson Cancer Center. "Sen. Specter's early diagnosis of his recurrent Hodgkin's disease has a five-year survival rate of 60 percent. He is in superb physical condition, with a normal physical examination and blood work, no symptoms of disease, plays squash regularly and follows a careful diet."

2. I feel for him
My mother passed away a little over a year ago from cancer.
She appeared to be getting better and then one night she just died.

It's unnerving to have cancer because you never know...

7. he does have the advantage of great health care and no financial worries
If he were a laid off steel worker whose pension had faded away, he's have been dead years ago..

I wish him well, and hope he retires so he can spend some quality time with his grandkids while he still feels good

I'll never forgive him for his antics during the Thomas hearings (worst SJC ever), but having cancer seems to have brought out some humanity in the man. Let's hope he can continue to fight off this awful disease.

17. That's unfortunate
I just saw him while flipping through the channels on whomever that guy is that's subbing for Glen Beck. He looked pretty good. Maybe this was taped a day ago. He just wrote a book about getting wrongly diagnosed several times (with Lou Gehrig's disease among other things).

He had a picture during his fight a few years ago, where he's losing hair, shaking Bush's hand, and Bush is apparently turning away. Specter said "Bush is thinking...'I know this isn't contagious...but maybe I should watch out'". He still has a sense of humor and is active. Like Elizabeth Edwards, he's a good source of encouragement for anyone diagnosed with the disease.

18. I hope he gets better.
Maybe he will have a spiritual breakthrough while he is recovering. And I do mean that in a good way, in case anyone thought it sounded snarky.

19. I wish him the best.
I always thought he was a cut above the typical Repub. I know he has let us down a few times, but for a Republican, he did a lot more than the rest of that rubber stamp crew.
