Former US leader trying to bridge gap "between people that won't communicate with each other"

Wednesday April 16th, 2008

Former US president Jimmy Carter continued his tour of the Middle East Tuesday, against the wishes of the Israeli and US governments, which have strenuously objected to his planned meetings with Hamas leaders. Carter met Nasser al-Shaer, a senior Hamas leader, and laid a wreath on the grave of Yasser Arafat. "I'm just trying to understand different opinions and communicate, provide communications between people that won't communicate with each other," the former US leader said. "If (the Hamas leadership) have anything constructive to say ... then I would bring that to other people." Carter is scheduled to meet Khaled Mashaal, the exiled leader of Hamas, in Syria on Friday.

1. Good for Carter. Someone needs to be doing Sec. Rice's
work for her. She sure isn't accomplishing anything by herself.

2. But doesn't it just piss you off that the two major trouble-makers
in the Middle East are the two that are pitching the bitch about him talking to Hamas? The US and Israel want to pretend that they can continue to ignore whoever opposes their plans and dreams and schemes for the area. That is not possible. Not unless you want things to continue on as they have for all these years.

Oh wait. Maybe they do want things to remain the same. I mean, how can you grab land and water and build fences unless you have that old crutch of 'everybody picks on Israel so they have to do these things for their safety' excuse to cover their criminal acts?
