Fusing politics and Olympic basketball. Adolf ... who?
Mike Krzyzewski, legend and coach of the Duke Blue Devils, is going to coach the US Olympic basketball team in China. With all the protests surrounding the simple running of the torch, this promises to be one of the sillier Olympics yet.

Apparently Krzyzewski was asked his opinion about playing in China considering China's human rights record and other problems, and Krzyzewski said, "Sometimes, through a performance you show more than by what you say. This is a tremendous opportunity to show camaraderie as teammates, serve as the ultimate example of people working together."

Harvey Araton of the New York Times added his interpretation of Coach K's comments: "If the Krzyzewski-coached men’s basketball soldiers of N.B.A. fortune can check their superpowered egos and personal agendas at the airport while trying to retake the gold next summer, if Kobe and LeBron can share the rock, can’t the Chinese improve their record on human rights? Can’t we all get along?" Yeah, nice job, Harvey.

Anyway, the Duke Basketball Report (online sports for Duke junkies) made this comment:

There are a couple of precedents for this: first of all, Jesse Owens, who just humiliated Adolf Rupp when he tried to use the Olympics for his own ends.

Um. Ok. This is Jonah Goldberg in reverse, but it's pretty damned funny. A lot of people outside the state of Kentucky hated Adolf Rupp, but this is the first I've hear him compared to Hitler.

It didn't take long for the correction to appear:

There are a couple of precedents for this: first of all, Jesse Owens, who just humiliated Adolf Hitler (we originally had Rupp here, which has to be our best typo of the year) when he tried to use the Olympics for his own ends.

This certainly separates the Duke Basketball Report from Jonah Goldberg -- they recognize how stupid it is to compare people to Adolf Hitler. Although, I'm sure Hitler would have been flattered.
