see those questions in print anymore, but I BET you hear them, or ones very similar, behind closed doors in the all male boardroom still today! To say that these aattitudes are gone is a joke!

Most big companies have HR departments (many staffed and/or headed by women) that are frightfully on alert of things like this that would run afoul of EEO laws.
Come on people, to say we haven't come a long way is to deny reality.
Have we reached Nirvana yet? No. But to say that scant little progress has been made is just silly.

8. Would it? Not necessarily. |

I admit this was 5 years ago, but I personally overheard the COO & the VP of Production talking about different problems the Company was experiencing. The VP said "Ya know I finlly figured out that the hell is wrong with this operation. We have two broads running the two most important jobs in the company...the Purchasing Manager and the Production Manager! Lets pick a couple of the guys for those spots and our problems will be GONE!" Withing the next two weeks the Purchasing Manager was fired and the Production Manager was demoted. Yes, they were replaced by two men.
Same Company a few years earlier said "There's only one good place for a woman...flat on her back in bed!"
This is a very large manufacturer & retailing Company with almost 3,000 stores & two manufacturing locations and four distribution facilities.
Granted, that's only ONE example, but IMO it's NOT the only one!

9. If that's true, then that company should have been taken to the cleaners |

And that ability, to sue for violations of sexual discrimination, is another example of how far we have come.
I don't claim we're perfect. Far from it. But we have made great, tremendous, strides forward.
And that kind of rank sexism that you described, unfortunately, cuts across both gender lines. I am shocked by what I hear my girlfriends say sometimes. "Men are only good for one thing, and they're not even good at that." And these are Democratic-voting women.

and the fact that the reality of sexism in this country is so vehemently denied by so many tells me we still have a loooooong way to go.

4. All you have to do is look at some of the Anti-Clinton "graphics" on this Democratic message board |
|
and see that we haven't come that far.
It's still "OK" to denigrate half our population. And if they're old, well, give 'em a swift kick while you're at it! See, only old MEN gain wisdom with their years--that's how it works.

11. Well, I've seem some fucking nitwits suggest that Colin POWELL would make a good president, or VP. |

The guy is just a few months younger than McCain.
That's the "appearance" standard at work, you see.
Murtha is being a good soldier, bless his heart. He's the only one who can fire that gun, because he's older than the individual in question. Anyone else would get their ass handed to them.

7. Yes, women have come a long ways, but still have a longer way to go |
|
The business world moves at an evolutionary pace, not a revolutionary one. However, just compare the number of women in middle management and senior management of Fortune 500 companies now, compared to even 20 years ago. It's a lot higher now than it was back then. And, in another 20 years, it will be even higher. There are a dozen women working as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Only 10 years ago that number was 1.
it's not moving as fast as it should, but it is moving.
