Bloggers Find Something Fishy In McCain Site's 'Family Recipes'

Ahh, the home cooking of Sen. John McCain's wife, Cindy. You can almost smell her Ahi tuna with Napa cabbage slaw or her rosemary chicken with warm spinach salad as you peruse the recipes on her husband's campaign Web site.

Or you could have, until yesterday, when that part of the site was taken down after bloggers revealed that several of the "McCain Family Recipes" were, in fact, copied word for word from the Food Network.

Cindy McCain's tuna recipe was actually developed and submitted to the Food Network by cookbook author and former "Cooking Thin" host Kathleen Daelemans. The recipe for farfalle pasta with turkey sausage, peas and mushrooms was a "quick pasta classic" from the TV show "Everyday Italian." That old McCain standby -- rosemary chicken -- was a creation of TV chef Rachael Ray and was lifted, with a few changes, from the same Food Network site.

Cindy McCain. The Web site removed "Cindy's Recipes." (Jake Roth - AP)

All three were listed on a McCain Web page titled "Cindy's Recipes."

Again bloggers find the truth before MSM!

1. C'mon you guys
Who out there "makes up" recipes? We all get recipes from friends and yes, Foodnetwork...and we consider them our recipes.

Sheesh!

4. but we don't call them our Family Recipes
That's plagiarism. Recipes are intellectual property just as much as a poem is. You wouldn't post a poem and call it your family's work, would you?

6. But would you TELL someone you invented the recipie if you didn't?
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 04:29 PM by rocknation
Wouldn't you say, "I got it from my sister/the internet/TV/a cookbook?" More important, what would be the harm in doing so? If the web site had simply said, "Cindy's FAVORITE Recipies," you'd be absolutely right.

2. Well, I wouldn't expect her to cook.
Putting on that much base takes a big chunk out of your day.

5. She should really do her neck, too.
Either that, or she just attended the detonation of a nuclear device, and refused an offer to wear a welder's mask.

7. Hmmmm. It all sounds like "elitist" food to me.
And the fact that it's stolen just makes it more in keeping with the McCain brand of right-wing elitism.

Say, doesn't McCain emotionally abuse his wife? Why can't veterans get proper healthcare in this country?

9. If she were actually one of us little people...
...she'd have recipes for stuff like beanie weenies or chili mac (can of Hormel chili and box of mac n' cheese). Or perhaps my boring-ass recipe for beef stroganoff, consisting of beef, egg noodles, a can of cream of mushroom soup and a little milk.

Using hand-me-down recipes is one thing. Copy-and-paste from Food Network's site is another. I'll bet she's never even used a can opener.

And I bet Crazy old "time-bomb Johnny" would viciously insult her cooking anyway.

Dump cake: (right into the pan) canned peaches, cake mix. Topping: cinnamon & butter/margarine slices & a sprinkling of oats on top. No mixing bowls to wash!

13. That sounds great!
Does it work with apple pie filling instead of peaches?

Does it require baking?

15. I think you can use any fruit. It's so damn easy. They're like cobblers.
You can search "dump cake recipes" on Google to find all the old Kurovski family recipes! ;-) Here's one for apple pie filling:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Apple-Dump-Cake/Detail.aspx

INGREDIENTS
1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
1 (18.25 ounce) package apples and cinnamon muffin mix
1/2 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, or to taste

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 9x13 inch baking pan
Mix apple pie filling with ground cinnamon to taste. Pour mixture into pan. Sprinkle apples and cinnamon mixture over top of apples.
In a small saucepan melt the butter or margarine and pour evenly over the top of the cake. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon if desired.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot with ice cream!

10. Hells Bells, is her face a whole different color (and not a good one) than
the rest of her?

Or is my computer monitor screwed up?

She looks yellow/beige in the facial area and splotchy pinky everwhere (neck and ears and thorax), right?
