The only thing i want to hear from a "progressive republican"
is

"I apologize from the deepest part of my soul for this administration and the damage they have brought to our great country, and I will do everything in my power to right their wrongs,to restore the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and see that all criminal acts of this administration are investigated and prosecuted."

Then we can talk issues and policy, but if you can't start with that, keep out my sight and keep your yap shut.

4. So he wasn't a dem, so what
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 12:03 AM by Juche
He didn't sound like the kind of guy who would blindly follow Bush as he takes America to the brink of hell. Those are the republicans you need to worry about. Right now the religious right is angry at McCain not because he wants to engage in dangerous, unaffordable or reckless policies; because he wants another few trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy and unneeded wars or because he is openly inept on foreign policy (like Bush) but because he is too 'liberal'. He isn't full of venom against mexicans and gays. He works across the isle to get things done.

Those are the ones you need to worry about. The ones who can look at everything Bush has done in the last 7 years and honestly say 'you know, I agree with all of it but I'd like to see more bigotry and unwillingness to compromise'.

McCain has worked with these senators, they are not blue dogs.

8. It's all FAUX... until we have a TRUE majority in the Senate
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 12:22 AM by Breeze54
You haven't seen nothing yet!

Right now they have to appear to be working across the aisle, as they do not have the clout.

We need to work HARD to give the Senate the Democratic clout in November!!

NINE more seats... just nine more....

9. Nine more probably isn't realistic
Getting 6-7 is possible, then we'd have 58 seats. But I have heard going beyond that would be extremely hard.

Then again you look at how much higher turnout has been in the primaries. Even on super tuesday it was 50% higher for the dems. If that carries over to November 60 may be feasable.

10. 9 is the GOAL to have a majority! - And someone told you to give up?!
"But I have heard going beyond that would be extremely hard. "

LIFE IS HARD!!! Are you strong enough? Do you really want it?

If so; then get busy!! YOU ARE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE!

Nothing is impossible if we work hard enough. Do you really want it?

If so, then start finding out who needs help and spread the word and volunteer your time!!!

I worked the 2004 Election and although Kerry had it stolen, NH elected for a DEM GOV

for the first time in 16 years and he WON!! ;) Change happens in small increments...

But? IT HAPPENS! ;) CHANGE IS POSSIBLE BUT IT TAKES COMMITMENT!

15. Who said anything about giving up
When I wrote my original post I was going to add something in about how we have to focus on 2008 and 2010, but didn't. In retrospect I wish I had. If we can get up to 57-58 in the senate in 2008, and then push it up to 59 in 2010 I think the GOP will give in. But it is a long range plan and the infrastructure and grassroots efforts being made right now have to continue for a long time. 2008 is just the beginning of repairing this country.

11. I would hope to hear them say they are voting Democrat or
switching parties permanently and that they have changed their minds. That would be more constructive.

12. What I'd like to hear from a progressive Republican...
would be something like, "McCain is no progressive Republican; Hillary and Obama are much closer to my beliefs; so I will be voting Dem this year and encouraging my friends to do the same!"

13. Progressive Republicans were hunted to extinction by fascist neocons.
Those that survived either came to their senses and became true Democrats, or dropped out to become Libertarians, or sold their souls, gave up their progressive ideas & supported the neocon coup full bore.

Anyone who calls them self a "Progressive Republican" is lying.

14. I have a BIL who says "I'm prochoice. I believe in gay marriage."
(he has a gay daughter and a gay son). He votes straight Repuke every time.

When I see him this summer, I hope he doesn't start that shit again. I have ignored him to please his wife, my husband's sister, who doesn't want any political "unpleasantness."

But my response to him this summer will be "How can you say you are for things that you vote against, when you pull the Republican lever?" and just let the question hang out there...
