Why the FLDS men will NEVER go public in a plea for their families: |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 08:51 AM by elehhhhna
Imagine the interviews:
"How many children of yours do we have in custody?" "34!"
"How old is your youngest wife?" "14."
"How do you support your family of 34 kids and 7 wives?" "Welfare & foodstamps."
"Do you really waterboard babies to make them stop crying?" "Yes."
Come on. They start answering questions and the lid will really blow off.

6. No, go where like minds think alike |
|
When I was down in Belize I met up with some Mennonites who had moved first from the US to Mexico and then from Mexico to Belize. They weren't happy with the way the government was treating them, so they picked up and moved to a place that seemed to have a more favorable government to their way of living.

I think they'd follow the same pattern as their wives.
"How many children of yours do we have in custody." "Our children need us." "How old is your youngest wife?" "Age isn't relevant. We want our children back." "How do you support your family of 34 kids and 7 wives?" "We are good people. Are children are sweet and innocent and they need us." "Do you really waterboard babies to make them stop crying?" "We would never abuse our children. They wouldn't love us if we abused them, and they do love us."

5. Oh Goody More Corporate Media Circuses... |
|
Yep, I'm on a big jag against our beloved punditocracy...last night was one bridge beyond one bridge too far for me.
The corporate filter has turned this sad story into yet another media circus where the issues get simplified and confused, values are imposed and misunderstandings abound. It's rife for stereotypes and hatred to arise and for the corporate media to play judge and jury on all involved.
The other day I got an email from a longtime friend who is a member of the LDS church. He totally abhors FLDS but his point is worth merit. He considers this sect like a lost tribe...totally isolated from society for nearly a century...and many who are in this cult (his words as well) have known no other life, no other value system...they're being dragged from the 19th century into the 21st and then the corporate media makes it look like a freak show. People lose the differentiation between FLDS and LDS...and prolong stereotypes that many LDS members have worked hard to remove.
Interviewing these men will offer little but to prolong a sad story that should be handled strictly in the courtroom, not in the corporate media.

7. There is a difference: |
|
A lost tribe, cut off from the world is very different from one living in the midst of the 21st century, with all the benefits of the 21st century, being supported by our taxes, with full access to the outside world.
The leaders of this "tribe" are not something out of the 21st century, they are instead, greedy, abusive, businessmen who keep women and children shut away from the world to keep them convinced that the greedy and abusive behavior is "normal" and all part of god's will. These men do not subject themselves to the same suffocatingly oppressive life they force upon their families.
