Big surprise, Perry tells Dallas Morning News he'll seek reelection in '10

Exclusive: Texas Gov. Rick Perry to run for re-election in 2010

By GROMER JEFFERS JR. / The Dallas Morning News
gjeffers@dallasnews.com

Gov. Rick Perry told The Dallas Morning News on Thursday that he would seek re-election as governor in 2010.

During a break in a Republican Governors Association forum being held in Grapevine, Mr. Perry said that he would like to return as governor.

When asked whether the gubernatorial field would include Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, David Dewhurst and himself, Mr. Perry responded , “I don’t know about them, but it will be Perry in 2010.”

“I don’t know about the other two. You need to ask them.”

When he completes his current term, Mr. Perry will be the longest-serving governor in Texas history. He took over for George W. Bush after he was elected president in 2000.

1. Kay B might just run, too.
If we Dems can put up a viable candidate, we might have a shot at taking the seat. That's with the proviso that BHO or HRC don't mess up the first two years of their presidency.

3. I love how he said he wouldn't accept a VP offer from McCain.

Pretty easy to say in his position.
