Expats - what are your reasons for moving overseas?

1. I'm considering a move

because I've been without health insurance for 20 years and because I inherited enough money I don't have to put up with this conservative shit any more if I don't want to.

I have given up on the idea that this country gives a shit about any of us who live here. All the government cares about are a few billionaires and the cartels they have formed called corporations.

2. Where are you considering moving?

5. I'd like to stay in this hemisphere

because there are a few things I inherited that I'd like to keep. It doesn't much matter, the US is the only country without national health insurance.

Yes, folks, that's right. Only the US has no national health insurance. The whole third world in this hemisphere has it, even though they are too poor to make it universal as yet.

That's how much of a shit this country doesn't give about its people.

Intergenerational Mobility is a major factor

Health Care

National Identity (to escape nationalism/theocracy/facism and relocate to a more philosophically based government)

My tax dollars funding war/MIC is a major issue I have

Gap between the rich and poor is at a dangerous level, which will lead to social unrest eventually. Poverty breeds depravity, as it should.

Corporate control is too entrenched. I do not think this country can be redeemed without a revolution.

I do not want to raise my children in a place where they have to pledge allegience to this, learn we are number one and cannot do wrong, and be surrounded by materialism and greed--all while being stalked by the manifestation of our social ills in the form of child molestors, murders, thiefs and politicians, only to study for twenty years (if they 'survive') to make less than what I do annually in virtual indentured servitude.

I could not retire here....I would work till I die or die from my work.


I forsaw instability and economic problems over 4 years ago and began the immigration process abroad. I can not be happier to finally have my Visa.

4. if I did move, it would be for the healthcare

and the better labor standards and the better environmental attitude in general.

I don't want to be rich, I want to have peace of mind. To know that you are NOT one hospital trip away from permanent financial ruin, what a feeling that must be.

6. Nastyness

Americans, while some are very nice, live in a basically nasty environment. Screw the homeless, try to run down the pedestrians, cheat the worker out of his fair day's wage, deny the sick their health insurance benefit, tack on the added fee for some bogus service. It just makes putting up with everyday life not worth it. Especially when the situation is different abroad.

If you are walking or using public transportation abroad, you are not automatically a second class citizen.

If you show up at the National Health Care service, your problem gets treated.

Many places, there are limits to what added fees can be imposed, not "what the market will bear".

Plus the police, I have never encountered police abroad that were as nasty as the ones in the USA.
