Democrats Debate?

This has been bugging me since last night. Why did ABC choose to call their gotcha-fest THE DEMOCRATS DEBATE?





It reminds me of the petty Republican tactic of calling the Democratic party the "Democrat" party as a way to imply that our party is somehow not democratic. This banner on the bottom of the screen was the clearest evidence throughout the night that the debate was run by a petty, Republican network.

1. I think it was just used as the plural of Democrat --

there were two Dems debating -- Democrats Debate. Maybe.

2. Proper English would be...

...either "The Democratic Debate" or "Democrats Debate"

"The Democrats Debate" suggests that the political party is called "The Democrat Party"

There are plenty of people at ABC News with degrees in English and journalism, so I doubt it's a mistake.

3. or "The Democrats' Debate"

as in the debate of, for, or belonging to the Democrats.
