U.S. Begins Erecting Wall in Sadr City
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 09:15 AM by spanone
this oughta solve all the problems..: :sarcasm: great leaders build bridges....bu$h* builds walls

BAGHDAD — Trying to stem the infiltration of militia fighters, American forces have begun to build a massive concrete wall that will partition Sadr City, the densely populated Shiite neighborhood in the Iraqi capital.

The construction, which began Tuesday night, is intended to turn the southern quarter of Sadr City near the international Green Zone into a protected enclave, secured by Iraqi and American forces, where the Iraqi government can undertake reconstruction efforts.

“You can’t really repair anything that is broken until you establish security,” said Lt. Col. Dan Barnett, commander of the First Squadron, Second Stryker Cavalry Regiment. “A wall that isolates those who would continue to attack the Iraqi Army and coalition forces can create security conditions that they can go in and rebuild.”

3. Reagan tore down walls and Bush builds walls. I guess
it is alright for Republicans to tell others how to live.

5. Hey wait. Doesn't he keep saying 'Walls don't work' when talking about our southern border?
Then again, I'm sure someone who is willing to blow himself up to make a point will probably be deterred by a wall, while someone who just wants to make more money won't be deterred at all.

6. I guess the militia fighters will get the message now!
What a f*cking joke. First they will piss on your wall and then they will rocket the Green Zone. Time to go home, Americans!

7. Gee, I thought all the militia fighters in Sadr City....
....were RESIDENTS of Sadr City.

I heard a heartbreaking report on NPR the other day......interviewed both an Iraqi Police guy and a "militia fighter", who were lifelong friends, both from Sadr City (I think). The Iraqi Police guy said his friend was not particularly happy about his job with the Iraqi Police, but the policeman added that, when the "final battle" came, he would have to leave the police ranks and fight with the militia, or his family would be killed. His last statement was something like: "when that final battle comes, the militia won't have anything left to lose, and I won't either".

I said it at the outset: winning of the Iraq War by the US forces was a foregone conclusion, but winning the peace was a quite different matter. We will NEVER win the peace.

I hope there's a special place in hell for all the Neocons who lied us into this atrocity.
