it went up .20 in two days.
Needless to say, I will be doing a lot of work around the house this summer.
I won't be contributing to the economy much.

10. You're lucky. $3.49 here in NM |
|
and it was $3.19 last weekend. That's the biggest one week jump I've seen yet and it might be a record.
I shudder to think what the robbers next to the interstates are charging.

12. Robbers? IIRC, the margin for retailers is |
|
less than 5 cents a gallon.
It's almost not worth it for them.

21. Right, but prices are fixed by location |
|
Whether the station owners are getting the extra profit margin is irrelevant. The fact is that the robber stations are next to the interstates is the point. Additional profits are being generated by virtue of location, alone.

23. Oh, I don't dispute your point one bit. The prices are |
|
definately higher closer to the interstates. So much so that on long trips I will go the extra couple of miles off the interstate to save 5-15 cents per gallon on a fill-up.

Yesterday it was $3.449 and one week ago it was $3.370. Looks like you weren't dreaming since on average it's gone up a dime in one week. http://www.gasbuddy.com/

In my rural Washington state town, the price has gone up 27 cents for regular gas. It is now $3.69 a gallon, and diesel has gone up to $4.63! It went up 10 cents just today, and has gone up 3 times this week alone.
It's more of the Bush "economical" plan for corporate America. Get it while you can just in case the lobbyists can't buy off as many dems as they had republcans after the election!
It's a combination of BS that is driving up prices. The falling dollar, investors trying to make a killing by buying up oil and jacking up the prices, Bush keeps filling the national reserves, and big oil companies taking lessons from "ENRON" on how to stick it to the little guys! And last, but not least, a congress, both dems and repugs who don't have the guts to do anything about this problem. To many in congress have their hands in the oil company cookie jar, and as long as they get rich, they don't care about the rest of us, and that includes dems and repugs alike. What we need to do is vote those who take oil money out of congress, and put in some people who will work for the good of the country and the people who put them in office, not for the good corporations and their own pocketbooks!

And I don't even what to fill up my other car (a rebuilt restoration that uses high-octane gas).
Are we not pissed? Where is the breaking point?
Gas stations aren't making out. They probably make the same nickle per gallon they always did.
In some ways, it's not even gas. I live in New England. I drive to work, a 90 mile round trip that is about $10 a day. No raises for me to compensate.
We heat with oil - very cost effective, traditionally, but a tank is 275 gallons. It lasts you 3 or so weeks in the winter. Nowadays it's $1200 to fill that sucker up. That blowis away whatever we spend on gas on our car.
Who do we complain to? I fear there's no one.
