Who knew? There actually IS a genetic flaw in some Mormon families |
|
that will make a man father only girls. It comes from generations of inbreeding. :P

14. You don't need very many men for rapid breeding. You need lots of women. |

5. That might explain a family I know. |

5 girls. No boys. Dad finally gave up and started giving the girls boys' names he had saved up.
And yeah, they're one of those old mormon families that's married to all the other mormon families, complete with "the look" (teeny tiny anime noses, blonde or ginger hair, freckles, really light skin.)

prime factor in the hearings.
They are, indeed, driving themselves to extiction but not fast enough in my book. It has been stated that most of the people in the the Texas and AZ-Utah compounds come from only two families - Jessop being one of them.

13. And the inbreeding is a threat to us all, in the long run. |
|
In the case of fumerase deficiency, I read that at one point there were less than twenty cases known in the whole world. Now, thanks to the incubation of this recessive gene in these polygamist communities, the situation is very different. From your article:
"Of even greater concern was the fact that the recessive gene that triggers the disease was rapidly spreading to thousands of individuals living in the community because of decades of inbreeding."

but it's possible that their boy babies have a lower survival rate, due to a genetic defect..... Purely speculation on my part.

10. These incestuous disorders created by polygamy |
|
have been pretty much put under the table in both AZ and Utah because of the number of Mormons in both states - particuarly in the state legislatures and governments.
The problem has a much better chance of being brought out in the open in the state of Texas,

that the skewed sex ratio at the YFZ ranch was due to genetic causes.

I'm problably taking this wrong, but I hope your tongue and cheek post is not equating the LDS to FDLS. The LDS does not sanction the FLDS's practices.

However, because of strong sympathy with the FLDS cult (who live like grandma and grandpa did, "bless 'em"), it is very difficult for law enforcement and public officials to act. Read about former cult members who try to seek help from the government. It's pitiful. They're practically shunned.

18. The articles I read about it said that since the "founder" population of Utah was small |
|
there was a lot of cousin marriage and other inbreeding in the early days, and even now Utahns descended from the original pioneer families of Utah have a fairly high rate of some genetic diseases.
I was definitely NOT equating the modern LDS and the FLDS.
In the FLDS, apparently they've got a REALLY, REALLY high rate of some VERY rare genetic diseases, in part due to modern inbreeding in their closed communities.
