7. She's replaying the MSNBC clip
She's into the bit about the FL campaign chair trying to buy a BJ.

"This is the type of tempest in a teapot that would be politically distracting to McCain."

9. "But McCain's NOT being grilled about it."
So he's not immune to guilt-by-association stories, was her point, but Scaborough got nutty. "out of the blue."

32. I was slightly disapointed that she left out the part whe she said
"let me finish my point before you dismiss me". She left in let me finish my point, but she took out one of the times that she said that that included before you dismiss me.

I love Rachel, and she owned Joe, but she should have left that part in.

16. Was she describing herself as
"a woman, a gay woman?"

I really think she deserves her own show!

Not that it matters but I don't remember hearing that she was Gay.

22. No, she wasn't... and YES, she needs her own show
I think she's on her way to getting one, too. She's a rising star.

Personally, I think Joe has a problem with her because:
1. she disagrees with him a lot
2. she's a woman, and has frequently bested him on the talk shows
3. she's on her way UP, and he's on his way DOWN. (resentment)
Just my feeling on the subject...

Joe is one of those men who like to EXPLAIN things to women. It doesn't matter if the woman has a better grasp and is more knowledgeable on the subject, he is to "be listened to." Ideally, women should sit quietly (enthralled, if possible), leaning forward, with a slight head tilt, listen, and just let him talk. Do not interrupt him, except for approving and agreeing.

Wonderful article by Rebecca Solnit on this topic: http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/174918
It's a very entertaining read (but serious too).

23. I took a peek at Mourning Joe last week
and it was like a morgue on that set.

You could tell that someone had given him some very bad news.

He was bitter and tried to say something border line nice about Obama.

Then Mica, who was perky before and tried to be "fair",lit up like a Christmas tree at the sound of the name McCain.

The one with the curly hair just stuck to the script, gloom is the best way to describe it.

What's happening ~ he started out just slamming everyone.

35. That's because he is a republican, or rather he is a corporatist which has been made synonymous
with republikan. The DLC, Blue Dogs, etc. are the Democratic wing of the corporate party.

21. Why do you think that's funny?
I don't think she's a spiteful person; she behaves professionally around the guy she calls her crazy "uncle," Pat Puke-cannon, after all.

Scabby Joe is a jerk, but at least he's not a racist and anti-Semite like Pat...

17. Nutshell:
She was being magnanimous in her assessment. Called it a 'kerfuffel' (sp?), surprised it got so much attention.

She did not know what was happening (while it was happening), she was unaware Joe was upset until he used his 'prediction' time to address her directly.

Suggested Joe has an extreme schedule (early mornings, afternoons and evenings) which she couldn't keep, and is under a lot of stress.

She did not mean to hurt his feelings, and she's not sure she did.

She still thinks it's a valid discussion to have whether character assassination is more effective against newbies politicians (Obama) that it is against seasoned long term pols (McCain). She doesn't believe it is.

20. And as is so often the case, she's probably right.
While I find a lot of Scaborough's views idiotic, I think she's probably right that he just kinda lost it and got bent out of shape for no real good reason last night.

It's not like this guy's heard liberals ragging on Republicans for sex scandals before. she's probably right; Joe was probably just wiped out.

FWIW, Rachel's been fighting a cold for a week, has been swilling Dayquil to get through the day, and maybe sympathizes with the idea that Joe maybe just wasn't quite his normal self. I'm willing to take her at her word on this.

Joe better get used to hearing the truth from Rachel!

Have you seen this interaction between Rachel and Joe?

Maddow Schools Joe "The Interrupter" Scarborough

More reality that Repugs aren't used to hearing on MSM.

(I'll have to go back and listen on podcast), but I was very impressed that she was so sincere and apologetic about the entire situation. If that had been me, I would have been laughing my ass off, but she obviously has more class than I do.

36. From what I've observed...
Cable TV news tends to take Liberals and turn them into mushy little moderates. I hope that doesn't happen with Rachel Maddow.

37. Probably true. But if saying what needs to be heard with a smile works, and
that polite manner keeps you on the air longer, like Keith, then I applaud them for it. I adore Randi, but her edginess has meant her removal from the NYC ariwaves, and that doesn't help the learning curve one bit.

I can usually take her agressive style, but the people we need to convince don't usually like her. She's not going to win over an old GOP supporter who's finally having doubts about their beloved party.

If Rachel can reach over the line like Keith, she'll be far more powerful than Randi. Randi preaches to the choir.. That's important, but, with elections looming, Rachel might be able to tip some votes away from the war mongers. She's also an important leveling force against right wing lunacy, as Joe has just discovered. Do no underestimate the power that one voice can have. Even if it's smiling. Knowing that Rachel is listening and will call you on your words is valuable, even if she's nice about it.

38. But "nice, smiling" hosts don't get ratings.
Bill O'reilly, Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, etc. get their ratings from being outrageous. I don't think that being "nice" and moderate is a recipe for success. Becoming more like conservatives just proves to them that they're right.
