The reviews are in for "Expelled"! |
|
"One of the sleaziest documentaries to arrive in a very long time, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is a conspiracy-theory rant masquerading as investigative inquiry." - New York Times
"Surely the film's greatest offense is the utter shamelessness with which it exploits the Holocaust." - TV Guide
"This is propaganda, a political rant disguised as a serious commentary on stifled freedom of inquiry." - USA Today
"It shows us bogus security files, as if some cabal is spying on everyone. It shirks the facts. And it madly edits images to equate Darwin with Hitler, and Ben Stein with -- yes -- Ronald Reagan. Typical of all propaganda, it also distorts language." - Newark Star-Ledger
"For a film about American freedom of expression and the necessity for open dialogue, it's hard to imagine Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed being more one-sided, narrow-minded, and intellectually dishonest." -Slant Magazine
"The movie itself is an example of design by faith and emotion rather than intelligence, defined as rationality grounded in proof." - Chicago Sun-Times
"Stein claims to denounce the tyranny of dogma, then browbeats us with his own." - Newsday
"Bizarre and hysterical." - Village Voice
But the reviews aren't all bad...
"The film shows that Intelligent Design should be on the table for discussion. But if you're looking for ammo to argue your Darwinist friends under the table, look elsewhere." - Christianity Today
"It is powerful. It is fabulous" - Rush Limbaugh (this one is actually used in the print ads for the film)
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Now playing at a theater near you... for the next few hours, at least.

2. Oh, it'll be in all the theaters |
|
and attended by whole Sunday school classes and then it will bypass the dollar theaters, go to DVD, and have a second life in every wingnut church across the country as long as DVD players exist. They might even start playing it on pious TV.
Normal people won't go to see it unless it's bad enough to gain cult status. Considering who Ben Stein is, it just might be that bad.

3. It opened in over 1,000 theaters today. |
|
Box office numbers will start coming in tomorrow, but I'm going to predict that the producers are going to lose their shirts on this. Nobody but true believers are going to see this, and I honestly don't think there are enough of them that go to the movies that it will help.
We'll have a clearer idea tomorrow.

4. Wow! Limbaughs review is so compelling, I want to rush out and see this movie! |
|
"It is powerful. It is fabulous."
But I guess his dittoheads only need to see his name printed on something to get their limpbot hard ons.

the intended audience.
Advertising this movie on Air America is like advertising for The KKK in Ebony Magazine.

7. This won't be as big as the fundis think it will. |
|
A few months from now this will be in the $.99 DVD bin.
These kinds of films are worth picking up used on DVD, just for the comedy factor. 'George W. Bush: Faith in the White House' was an unintentionally hilarious film.

8. I hope this movie garners a LOT of attention |
|
All of it bad, and it becomes a watchword for bilious tripe. This movie, with the right attention from the right corners, could spell the end of Ben Stein's ridiculous career (imagine never hearing that whiny nasal voice again!) and drive the last nail into the coffin of (un)intelligent design.
