So the US is helping to build a wall right smack through the middle of Baghdad... |
|
Now this has been going on for a quite some time now.
We are creating 21st century Ghettos in the city we supposedly liberated.
I don't know about you but I find this just a tad disconcerting.
It seems as if we have adopted the tactics of our most historically loathsome foes; the Nazi's in Warsaw and the Soviets in Berlin.
Aren't we just a tad bit better than that?
Have we fought a war to liberate a people only to segregate those very same people in perhaps the most ham handed way possible?
Because out political leaders trumped the military experts, we are now engaged in brutal civilian repression that goes against the core of what we were all led to believe separated US from the rest of the world.
I don't know.
This has all been hashed out before.
And there really is no need to perseverate over this one particular "transgression", but it just struck me as a bit odd that only our small circle of Friends perceives what it is we have become.

2. Some would say we liberated Baghdad |

It seems to me that we've just sent them back to the Stone Age, or worse...
It was a modern city with running water, electricity and security under Saddam...
Now, all those elements are gone...
And it's all because of our waging aggressive war...
And that is a war crime.

3. It's okay because irony died many many years ago. |

The neocons not only declared an end to the history; they also made certain that the coffin of irony was encased in cement, wrapped 'round with iron chains, and dropped into the deepest part of the ocean.
It is only the ectoplasmic ghost of irony that seems to appear to a few people now and then. Sort of like Elvis or UFO sightings. Decent, right-thinking people back away from such claims.
Decent, right-thinking people *know* that we are only doing these things for the good of the poor backward people of Iraq, so that they will be persuaded to join the "civilized" world.
