Man refused drink slays bartender

A man denied a drink at a Kansas City, Kan., bar opened fire in the tavern, fatally wounding the bartender early this morning, police said.

According to authorities, the man tried to order a drink at the Gossip Inn Bar at 24th and Park Drive about 1:30 this morning. The bartender, identified only as a woman in her 40s, asked him for identification first.

The man said he didn’t have any on him, and the bartender refused to serve him.

The man then started shooting, striking the bartender. He also fired at the remaining patrons in the bar before fleeing the scene.

The bartender was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not released Saturday.

5. That's horrible.

As a bartender, we usually just face assholes on occasion, though, recently, we have had some serious problems. Just last night, we had one of our bartenders harrassed..."Hey faggot, give me a drink." "Hey fag, where is the pisser." (Classy.) He was so scared (there were 12 of them), he didn't come and get any help. Another local bar had it's patrons pulled in the streets and beaten, the doors ripped off and they tried to yank bartenders from behind the bar, when the police showed up, they did NOTHING. One patron was still being beaten while a cop stood a few feet away and only intervened after a patron pushed the cop onto the beating. Sad. (The patron was arrested for assaulting a police officer, the only arrest made.) Two nights later, the same group went into yet another gay bar and started beating patrons sitting at the bar. Thankfully, that bar has security and they were thrown in the street and the bar is close enough to the "straight" district that the cops actually showed up and hauled the attackers off. Don't know what became of them, though.
