The beliefs of the FLDS
This group believes that when you die, you can go on to be a God on your own planet. Early teachings were that Adam was the God of this earth, and as the God of this earth, he had to populate the earth himself. Up in heaven there are spirit babies, who are the children of God and his wives. When you have mortal children, these spirit babies come down to earth. If a man has more wives, he can bring more babies into the world.

They believe that a man and his wives will be together forever in eternity, so a husband and wife will stay together as a God and Goddess on their own planet.

Righteous men are called to be patriarchs like in Bible times. Unrighteous men should not have children. The FLDS believes that it is their duty to breed a race of high priests through a system of patriarchy, and everyone who is a part of this system should have as many children as possible. Children are a symbol of goodness and worthiness for both a patriarch and his wife.

How does this relate to child rape?

Well, if a woman waits until she's 18 to start having kids, she's missing some good child-bearing years there. Heck, she could have 4 or 5 kids by then.

The FLDS believes that their prophet, Warren Jeffs, receives revelations directly from God in order to guide the group. Jeffs is the one who decides which girls are going to be assigned to which men. This is why he was arrested for being an accomplice to felony rape. Jeffs is a freak who married all but two of his father's wives after his father's death.

The community teaches that outsiders are Satanic and if a member leaves the group they will be damned to hell.

Nobody in the community other than Jeffs really has the power to stop this. If a man speaks out against it, his wives and children will be taken away from him and given to someone else. The men are as much prisoners of the system as the women and children.

That being said, it's a cult that thrives on systematic sexual, physical, mental, and emotional abuse, and this cult should be disbanded by the power of the state.

5. You going to go see if the FLDS needs an entymologist?
I'm sure you'd blend right in. :P

Furthermore, I'm sure Colorado City, Arizona is just like Arcata, California. Redwoods, farmer's market, kinetic sculpture race, 420 celebration in the park that YOU SHOULD BE AT...

Colorado City? Ah, yeah...nice scenics but I wouldn't stray off the path, too cute for that.

20. It's not just the FLDS. It's the LDS.
It ain't a religion for women.

The lucky ones, like me, finally see it for what it is and leave, thereby finding freedom and peace.

19. Okay, after a deep breath, I've avoided swearing at you.
Try growing up as a woman in a religion that tells you that if you're really really good someday you may get to be a brood mare in some celestial harem.

Then say that shit.

At least I got out of it. There are millions of Mormon women who still believe that.

22. It's never funny if you're someone who has suffered because of it.
LDS beliefs cause women great emotional pain, yet it's hard to just drop beliefs you've been raised with since childhood.

12. Hence the "trying to breed a master race."
These people are a CULT and they're dangerous, if not to outsiders, to their own members.

13. Yeah, but that "master race" thing seems to be running into
a little hitch along the way. It even has a nickname: Polygamists' Down's. Tragic, and frankly just another form of child abuse, to let this unnecessary thing happen.
