Pelosi Plans $178 Billion Blank Check for Iraq

"Measured in blood and treasure, the war in Iraq has achieved the status of a major war and a major debacle."

That's not from the peace movement - it's from the National Defense University, written by a senior Pentagon official who served under Donald Rumsfeld.

Yet despite the overwhelming opposition of the American people, Speaker Pelosi plans to rush a vote through Congress for another $178 billion blank check.

We must stop this madness. Tell Congress: No More Funds for Iraq

Activists around the country are organizing Iraq Town Halls so we can speak directly to our Representatives:

Unfortunately most Representatives are afraid to face us at our Town Halls, so we're organizing May Day Protests outside their District Offices on Thursday, May 1 at noon.

May 1 is the original Labor Day, and several unions are going on strike to protest the Iraq War. It's also "Mission Accomplished Day" (2003) and "Downing Street Minutes Day" (2005). Can you join us?

Thanks for all you do! (Thank you, David)

1. I just don't get it?
None of it is accounted for to the American public. How come we heard from all the tax-haters all those years how terrible welfare mothers were. Why is everyone so quiet about how their precious tax dollars are being squandered these days? I don't get it?

2. The only people still making noise are those damn activists
the ones Hillary wants to shut up (like MoveOn) because they're against her. The war is a hot potato. EVERYBODY SAYS THEY WANT TO END IT BUT NOBODY WANTS TO VOTE AGAINST FUNDING.

4. How about re-instating the Draft??? That will make people sit up and take notice
when their loved ones might be the ones called to active duty.

5. Draft = third rail
No one will reinstate the draft officially, it'd kill their political career.

Unofficially however the Repubs have been running a back-door draft with their stop-lossing for some time now.

6. Pelosi is enabling the transfer of public wealth
to the private *MIC sector. She's profitting from the deal and should be among the first "Democrats" tarred and feathered in the town square.

She is the epitome of betrayal.

Or to all our horror, she's one of them.

11. She is a traitor.
She claimed she can't end the war without the presidents signiture..

She is a lying hack that is covering for Bush. Fuck her.

PELOSI: Two things. First of all, I believe the war in Iraq. The public is weary of this war. They want it to end, and they had expectations that Congress could end it.

You know we can't without a presidential signature. But that focus on the war has eclipsed all that we have accomplished here.

12. In 2006 Democrats were elected to stop that War.
What is the difference between a republican who supports the war and a democrat who supports the war. I guess there is room in hell for both republicans and democrats!
