Fresno, CA Police Kill Student at Local High School
Fresno Police Kill Student at Local High School
By Mike Rhodes

On Wednesday, April 17, sophomore Jesse Carrisalez was shot and killed by Fresno Police Department (FPD) officer Junus Perry at Roosevelt High School. The FPD, shortly after the incident, released information to the public that indicated officer Perry shot the student in self defense. Carrisalez was said to have hit Perry with a baseball bat and a knife was found nearby. Police Chief Jerry Dyer said that “this was a case of suicide by cop.”

The first reports of this shooting said Perry, after being hit with a baseball bat, was knocked to the ground. The magazine to his handgun fell out as he hit the ground and Perry grabbed a second gun from his ankle and shot Carrisalez in the chest. Yesterday, a pathologist’s finding raised questions about what happened. According to The Fresno Bee, Harry Bonnell who is a San Diego pathologist, said the trajectory of the bullet is not consistent with Perry’s description of the incident. Instead of an upward trajectory, as would be expected if someone was shooting from the ground up, the bullet had a slightly downward angle.

At today’s press conference, Gloria Hernandez, speaking on behalf of the Central California Criminal Justice Committee demanded a public hearing on this shooting incident. “We need a public forum, we demand that the City Council call a public forum and let the people listen, let the people talk, because sometimes the people have recommendations that are outside of the box,” Hernandez said. She also said that this incident is further evidence of why we need an Independent Police Auditor.

Ben Benavidez of the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) said “we feel that the Fresno Unified School District let Jesse down. He was a Special Education student. Where was his support and intervention? We want answers, we will get them!”

Elisa Ortega, Jesse Carrisalez’s sister, said “my brother shouldn’t have died. He was too young. He was a good kid that wanted to live.”

The press conference was organized by the NAACP, MAPA, The Hmong American Political Association, and Comité No Nos Vamos.

3. But the cops version of the story is not matching the evidence.

12. If that "downward angle" is all that's questionable, then that's easily explained.
If the attacker was bending down toward the cop on the ground
when he got shot, the bullet hole will appear to have a "downward"
angle once his corpse is laid flat for examination.

There were PLENTY of witnesses to this incident; have any of them
said the kid DIDN'T walk up behind the cop and strike him without
any warning?

17. No knolls at all, just geometry. Here, I maked a picture of it:
It makes quite a remarkable difference. Our "victim" here
isn't bent terribly far, yet the result would make it seem
that he was shot from a rooftop, if you didn't have any
witnesses to the shooting:

It really looks like I EXAGGERATED the effect, doesn't it?
But that's the same torso and red line in both pics-
I just copied and rotated it upright.

22. Thanks. I thought the wizard helped make the little thought-experiment a bit less gruesome, y'know?
Now WHY the other guy looks like a young Poppy Bush,
I have no idea. He didn't look like that before I ran
him through the PhotoShop "posterize" filter.

Perhaps Poppy just appears whenever anyone says the words
"grassy knoll".

5. Play stupid games
Win stupid prizes.

The outcome of hitting a cop with a baseball bat is pretty much a foregone conclusion. At 17, you'd think he would have known this.

7. No matter who you are, ya just can't go around hitttin cops with bats
and not expect some sort of retaliation. Shit, forget cops. You can't do that to ANYBODY and expect nothing to happen.

What kind of school lets kids run around wielding baseball bats.

9. "His story" is easy enough to confirm.
There were six witnesses to the shooting, including five students and another police officer who was running to try and stop the attack. So far, all agree with the officers version of the events. The angle of the bullet wound might simply be caused by the angle of the kids body as he wound up to take another swing at the cops head.

It's already been confirmed by the kids own family that he was both a bipolar and a schizophrenic. It's tragic that he was killed this way, but the officer didn't have much choice...he was dazed from being belted across the head once by this kids baseball bat, and the kid was preparing to smash him again. Let's not even get into the butcher knife he was carrying and what he might have planned on doing with THAT.

It's a tragic situation, but the shooting appears justified.

23. the coward Robert Ford thought he was in danger from Jesse
Jesse was about the most famous outlaw in the old west at the time...the Ford brothers were hangers-on in the James gang. Replying to your assertion that the armed gunman needed to kill the boy cuz the armed gunman feared for his life, his health, or good looks, whatever, the counter assertion based upon common sense is simply to get away from the boy, to prevent trouble, because he was only a crazy kid having a fit- which occurs million times everyday, w/out gunmen killing anyone. The joke was Jesse James liked the Fords, though he teased them, and would have reacted to a threat from
Robert Ford, whom he considered small time, and surely not so crude as to shoot him in the back, as typical horseplay...the armed gunman coulda/shoulda ran for his life if he felt in serious danger. You don't kill kids cuz they acting crazy- and everybody on earth has seen crazed individuals acting strange, but only armed gunmen shoot them! Now they must justify the deed, by exaggerating the danger. Robert Ford, the coward, realized this before he himself was killed by a notoriety seeker

Carrizales' relatives said police have refused to tell the family where his body is being held while they investigate the shooting.
