Political Activism through music.... |
|
I heard this political musician on XM Radio. Check out the songs...this guy really speaks to what's happening in the country. Really gets me charged...Liberal lyrics with a message (specifically the song "Pendulum")...kind of reminds me of a Bob Dylan for this generation. www.myspace.com/jordanpagemusic

there need to be some that speak specifically to what's happening now....to get the young people going. Young people (myself included) are often too lethargic unless they think something is directly effecting their everyday life. The thing is....everything that is happening now is going to shape the future of this country for generations and generations to come. People need to be motivated by something. I personally think music is a very powerful medium for social change.

3. It is, but you need the right artists to make this type of music. |
|
Are there modern versions of CSNY, Dylan, CCR, Freida Payne, etc?
I don't think current pop music has that potential.

4. I wouldn't call what this guy does pop |
|
This guy is the so not a pop artist. In fact I can't stand pop. He is much more of a rock/folk type. Did you have a chance to listen to the song? Listen and if you think it is pop then ok but really not even close in my book....

5. I didn't mean him specifically. |
|
Quite right. He isn't pop at all. More like folk-rock as you say.
My point was that many of the current generation of "popular" musicians don't seem capable of thoughtful music.
His song "Listen" is also quite good.

Too many of them are superficial...trying to conform to some media standard of what music should be. That's why I find this stuff so refreshing. Sorry to come on strong...I tend to get passionate about these things!! Guess I am in the right place...??? :D

11. Check the guys on my sig |

If you like hip hop all their songs are politically charged. They like to say "We're the bullet in the middle of the belly of the beast."

7. I'm a 56 year old musician who was very impressed |
|
with the one song I listened to so far. I will definitely get back to his my space page and listen to some more in the very near future. I myself have been frustrated that despite having been in some very good ( on a local level) bands, I've never been in an overtly political one, and despite my impending/already arrived geezerhood, still have a dream of being in just one before I'm too old to rock. As you can tell from both my username ( hopefully the reference to Springsteen is obvious) and the picture of Marley, I admire artists who talk the talk and walk the walk. Dylan is a huge influence on my songwriting ( wish I was even a 1/100th as good)......, Joe Strummer was another hero; I loved The Clash, and I literally cried when he died........ Thanks for turning me on to this new guy.

You can still rock out in a political band. It is never too late to take a stand for what is right!!
