I've been a member since late 2005, and apparently that was a time in which the Activist Corps had become inactive. In my boredom I was looking up DU on wikipedia (really bored) and I stumbled across this entry.
(Founded on July 1, 2005, the Activist Corps is a group of over 1,000 DUers who are committed to taking action on a certain issue whenever an official Activist Corps activity is posted.
The first Activist Corps action was posted on July 12; members wrote letters to the editors of local newspapers regarding Karl Rove's role in the leaking of CIA agent Valerie Plame's name. More than 70 letters were published in newspapers throughout the country. Other Corps activities have included signing onlinepetitions to U.S. Senators asking them to reject Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, and to write letters of support Cindy Sheehan.)
In my very humble opinion, I think this is an opportune and necessary time to bring DU'ers together in such a fashion (especially the more articulate ones). One only needs to look to the GD:P forums to see the infighting that plagues our party. This primary will end in the near future, and we need people to speak out to help bridge the divide that has been erected between us. There are many of us who have staked so much emotionally and physically in a candidate that it will be an immense challenge to accept the other as the nominee.
The fact of the matter is that there is so much at stake in the upcoming general election that we cannot afford to be divided. I'm also willing to bet that as soon as this primary is over, the media will run with democratic-infighting and division as their main election coverage. So I'm asking that those who were effective enough to get 70 letters published in newspapers, and others to commit to helping unify all support behind our eventual nominee. People need to be reminded that John McCains 100 year war in Iraq is not acceptable.

Maybe one of the first projects should be a letter writing campaign by those who supported the contender who did not get the nomination. The writers can say whom they supported, what they did to show their support, and how they are now one hundred percent behind the person they formerly opposed, but who won.
I never joined the activist corps because I am already involved in activism at the local level. But I would support any show of unity. Maybe someone else can suggest other ideas to display our unity. Bumper stickers or buttons, like the "Dated Dean, Married Kerry" bumper stickers.
I am not trying to be snarky here. I mean it.

I didn't think any of it was snarky. I'm just fishing for ideas to be honest. Both of my parents said they were going to vote for McCain if Hillary lost, so over the past two weeks I've posted pictures of soldiers who have been killed in Iraq in areas where they had to see them. Microwave, fridge door, all over the tv, etc. I was just trying to remind them that regardless of who the dem nominee is, its important we bring our soldiers home

This thread is probably more relevant in the GD: P section. Insomnia makes my brain sleep

4. I like it better here. |

This way, it is less tempting for each side to say nasty things about the other.
Of course, the mods can always move it if they think I am wrong.
