jawbone of an ass

some perspective as oil prices are a mere droplet away from $120 a barrel:

on the day clinton handed over the reins to shrub, the price of a barrel of oil was $23.59.
oil today is MORE THAN FIVE TIMES the price when he took office.

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/hist/wtotusaw.htm">historical oil prices

http://www.ontheissues.org/celeb/More_George_W__Bush_Energy_+_Oil.htm">remember back in 2000 when candidate shrub thought that oil prices below $30 a barrel were too high?

OPEC will increase oil supply out of respect for Bush
Bush said today that he would bring down gasoline prices by creating enough political good will with oil-producing nations that they would increase their supply of crude. “I would work with our friends in OPEC to convince them to open up the spigot, to increase the supply. Use the capital that my administration will earn, with the Kuwaitis or the Saudis, and convince them to open up the spigot.” Implicit in his comments was a criticism of the Clinton administration as failing to take advantage of the good will that the US built with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf war in 1991. Also implicit was that as the son of the president who built the coalition that drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait, Mr. Bush would be able to establish ties on a personal level that would persuade oil-producing nations that they owed the US something in return.

3. amen to that, but shrub made that quote many times in many venues.
he barely even pretended to try to do anything to lower prices. he claimed that destroying an alaskan wildlife refuge would help, but that was a crock and when he couldn't get that he just whined about needing more refineries.

i don't recall him even acknowledging that oil prices were too high since seizing power.

5. i cannot wait to hear how we will play this shit this fall...
yeah, let's let the old man pledge to continue the 'successful' programs of the past 8 years...

johnny cannot get out of his own way fast enough to protect his weaknesses...

maybe it's a good thing that we are not wasting bullets for mccain this early in the process...

only the die-hard RW thugs and neoconazis are happy about the way the country is heading, and the POTENTIAL for a change in direction has to have them getting ready to scurry like cockroaches (sorry to insult the roaches) when the lights come on...

7. Oil and gold are still proportionally about the same.
It's the dollar that isn't worth a snot -- which is by design.
