Rice says Carter was warned against meeting with Hamas
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080422/ap_on_re_mi_ea/rice

Rice, attending a regional meeting on Iraq's security and future, contradicted Carter's assertions that he never got a clear signal from the State Department. Rice told reporters that the U.S. thought the visit could confuse the message that the U.S. will not deal with Hamas.

"I just don't want there to be any confusion," Rice said. "The United States is not going to deal with Hamas and we had certainly told President Carter that we did not think meeting with Hamas was going to help" further a political settlement between Israel and the Palestinians.

Carter said top Hamas leaders told him during seven hours of talks in Damascus over the weekend that they are willing to live next to Israel, but a top Hamas official said the group would never outright recognize the Jewish state.

1. That only serves to make me appreciate his doing this all the more!
Hooray for Jimmy! This proves that BushCo is no more interested in peace for Israel and Palestine than he is for freedom of the press, or safety of our soldiers, or fair oil prices, or... you know.

5. It's an early beginning...
It's an unfortunate thing to have to deal with these people, but that's how it is. Sometimes you gotta talk to people you don't like and Carter knows this.

Eventually, Hamas will have to recognize Israel. There is no getting around it. IMO, they'll be forced if they want their concessions met as well.

Whoever wins in November would be wise to have Carter on the front lines working for peace in the Middle East.

7. It's so true what Mr. Trump said about Condi's ME travels...
"I see Condoleezza Rice — she goes on a plane, she gets off a plane, she waves, she goes there to meet some dictator, They talk, she leaves, she waves, the plane takes off. Nothing happens, it’s a joke, nothing ever happens."

10. Looks like Spoiled Rice is covering her bony butt
because I seriously doubt Carter made that trip without State Department oversight of some sort.

He's just not the type, especially given his age, to go gallivanting off on his own.

Chances are Shoe Shoppin' Condi wasn't informed beforehand. It's not like any of the establishment there think she's competent to decide anything.
