Rationing Comes to Whole Foods
They were completely out of Porcinis last night.

I had to make lobster ravioli instead of lobster and porcini ravioli.

Damn Ethanol!!!

1. I'm sure people on DU who are trying to decide whether they
can go another week without ketchup will enjoy your post. :eyes:

3. Is ketchup a staple?
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 04:42 PM by theboss
Seems like an odd thing to be without?

And in reality, I had Arby's for dinner last night. I worked late.

But porcinis tend to be really difficult to find.

5. It's a vegetable
according to Raygun. I had a boss suggest that we eat spaghetti
with ketchup on it, one time, when I asked for a raise. :eyes:

20. Of COURSE ketchup is a staple.
It's good on anything except ice cream.

It is the duct tape of foods.

26. We used to get by with the little ketchup packets from the local burger joint.
Why buy condiments? ;)

Actually, I like mayo and mustard, and always have those handy for sandwiches. I've gone ages without ketchup, though.

They put it on almost everything.

compared to just a bread sandwich. Mayonnaise and mustard worked as well.

14. Seriously, get their green beans if nothing else
I don't care for their breads that much, and you can get most of the other stuff at the "organics" market in Safeway...but the veggies are insanely good.

Good fish market too.

15. I know. It's getting ugly.
There was a riot at the Piggly Wiggly today.
They were completely out of the canned smoked baby oysters and the sardines in Louisiana Cajun Hot Sauce.

The mob turned 17 shopping carts over in the parking lot and burned them.
Well, to be completely truthful, the only parts that burned were the plastic handle grips and kiddie seats and the rubber wheels.
But it made quite a stench and not a little smoke.
The volunteer fire department turned out and extinguished the blazes.
There was no loss of life and just a few minor injuries.

And it has been reported that a few DUers have no sense of humor.
But that's just an unfounded rumor at this point.
;-)

We're starving, we haven't had our daily ketchup-covered Porcinis with arugula reduction, the staff haven't returned and there's news that shopping carts are burning at the market!

My cats eat pâté.

Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 06:06 PM by Journalgrrl
My family and I have been there and aren't very far away from that point at any moment. We go without basics like fresh fruit and milk sometimes,
so you not being able to make your dish is kinda, well, insensitive? you think so?

I guess we should just have a good laugh now, while we all have full stomachs & refrigeraors (and running water, electricity, etc)...the painful part will come soon enough...

38. Relax! Sometimes a little brevity helps keep one from
bursting into tears.

We all know hunger isn't funny. It's deadly serious. 94% of us aren't far away from being hungry. Two paychecks gone and I'm eatin' from the food bank - if they have any food.
