JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) -

Singer-songwriter Paul Davis, who had a hit with the soft rock hit "I Go Crazy," has died.

(1970)

Davis died today at a hospital in Meridian, Mississippi, the city where he grew up.

He died of a heart attack, according to his cousin, James Edwards. Davis was 60.

"I Go Crazy" peaked at number seven in 1977 eight months after its release.

It then stayed in the Top 100 for 40 more weeks, according to Billboard.

Davis also had hits with "65 Love Affair," and "You're Still New To Me," a country duet with Marie Osmond.

Edwards says Davis came back to Mississippi after living in New York and Nashville so he could retire.

He says Davis "was living life at the slow pace that suited him."

5. I was just thinking about this guy, and this song, the other day!
I was wondering what he was up to these days.

I loved that song, even though I had no emotional attachment whatsoever to the year 1965. It was just a fun, happy tune.

Goodbye, Mr. Davis. You will be missed.

24. Actually, "'65 Love Affair" came out in 1981, IIRC
"I Go Crazy" was his first big hit.

What I meant to say was, although I didn't necessarily share the nostalgia that the song expresses, I still liked the tune.

If it was such a big hit.

But I'm drawing a blank. I've even looked at the lyrics...

Nothing.

Anyone got a link to an MP3 sample?

i'm near chicago--and have been forever. it was pretty popular around here.

(that was sad. he said he thought of me all the time anyway)

21. Yup, in Toronto
Although in those days it was mandatory to listen to Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot.

But a few of us managed to sneak a listen to Top Ten American stuff, like Boxcar Willie and Sonny & Cher....

I kid. I'm a kidder, what can I say?

I'll probably feel like a fool when I actually hear the song - I'm downloading the video right now.

46. Yes, I recognize it
And it wasn't the big hit here in Canada that it was down there in the States.

One of my guilty pleasures is sappy love songs from the 70s and 80s (Bread, anyone?)

This wasn't one of them.

37. Gordon Lightfoot - 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'
Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jxX2aZtVXQ

by Gordon Lightfoot

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconson
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.

Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind

When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.

The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the words turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd fifteen more miles behind her.

They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

'SunDown'

By Gordon Lightfoot

I can see her lyin back in her satin dress
In a room where ya do what ya dont confess
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin round my back stairs
Shes been lookin like a queen in a sailors dream
And she dont always say what she really means
Sometimes I think its a shame
When I get feelin better when Im feelin no pain
Sometimes I think its a shame
When I get feelin better when Im feelin no pain

I can picture every move that a man could make
Getting lost in her lovin is your first mistake
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin round my back stairs
Sometimes I think its a sin
When I feel like Im winnin when Im losin again

I can see her lookin fast in her faded jeans
Shes a hard lovin woman, got me feelin mean
Sometimes I think its a shame
When I get feelin better when Im feelin no pain
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin round my back stairs
Sometimes I think its a sin
When I feel like Im winnin when Im losin again

'Could I have this dance' ~ Anne Murray & Kris Kristofferson

'Could I Have This Dance'

I'll always remember the song they were playin',
The first time we danced and I knew,
As we swayed to the music and held to each other,
I fell in love with you.

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

I'll always remember that magic moment,
When I held you close to me.
'Cause we moved together, I knew forever,
You're all I'll ever need

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Cool Night'
I sometimes wonder why
All the flowers had to die
I dream about you
And now, summer's come and gone
And the nights they seem so long
Come on over tonight
Come on over
It's gonna be a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
Oh-oh, when the cool night
Brings back memories
Of a good life
When this love was not so old
Oh-oh, I won't talk about the past
How love's supposed to last forever
And you don't have to take a stand
Lay out any plans
Come on over tonight
Come on over
It's gonna be a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
Oh-oh, when the cool night
Brings back memories
Of a good life
When this love was not so old
Come on over tonight
Come on over
It's gonna be a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
On a cool night
Let me hold you
On a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
On a cool night
Let me hold you
On a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
On a cool night
Let me hold you
On a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
35. My sister would play that song over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ov-
....you get the idea. Her room was right down the hall from mine (until our older brother went off to college and she got his cool downstairs room), so I got an earful of it every afternoon and well into the evening.
Hated it back then, but it brings back good memories of days gone by now.
