*It's my sig file. Having just gone through a political fight on another
Yahoo list last week, I decline to object to your comments. I mention
only a few things in a positive light. I will say that Dr. King was a
labor organizer for the poor.
He had a conversation with Bobby Kennedy in 1962. From that conversation
Bobby recommended to JFK to appoint a young Labor Dept. attorney Howard
Jenkins to the NLRB. JFK then did appoint Jenkins (Mr NLRB) to the
board. He was the first black to ever serve on the NLRB. Over a dozen
years after the assassination of RFK and MLK, Howard Jenkins was the
vote on the board that upheld my appeal of an unfair labor action by my
former employer. It was considered one of member Jenkins most brilliant
and insightful opinions. It was upheld unanimously at the US court of
Appeals in St. Louis. I won reinstatement and 3 & 1/2 years of back pay
and benefits.

http://www.nlrb.gov/shared_files/Board%20Decisions/261/261-38.pdfOn April 3, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., traveled to Memphis to
support AFSCME sanitation workers. That evening, he delivered his famous
"I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech

The next day, he was assassinated.
On a last note, the Memphis strike was illegal by Tn state law. Because
of the assassination of MLK, the union was finally recognized. 62 men
and teens were injured by several means including having gasoline thrown
on them and lit.
Gregg you can think whatever you like about MLK. I have contributed to
his memorial. I observe his holiday every year with pay. He earned my
respect many years ago. I have three different MLK shirts I take great
pride in wearing. I had his AFSCME Memphis strike shirt on yesterday.
I'm a shop steward for AFSCME local 251.
I met and talked with **Kathleen Kennedy (Townsend) last month. She
didn't know about her fathers link with Howard Jenkins. I filled her in.
