Some Democrats in Sun City, AZ refuse to sign the petition of an African American candidate
This was told to us at the county party office by 2 volunteers who had gone out to get signatures to get him on the ballot. The candidate is a man who has devoted his life to improving his community. He led efforts to combat gang violence and spends his off-time coaching a youth track team.

According to the volunteers, a handful of people saw his picture on the petition and said they didn't want to support him because he was black. Now, obviously this is second hand but I trust these women (the volunteers) implicitly. They were very upset about it and I am disheartened and demoralized.

I started an OP in GD-P about Dems not voting for Obama in the general and I related this anecdote and thought it deserved a post here. I wish we had the power to revoke people's Democratic registration on the spot. Idiots like that can go be a Repuke or independent as far as I'm concerned. Same with anti-choicers, anti-immigrant xenophobes, and homophobes. When I come across one while canvassing or phonebanking I put DINO in big letters across their name so they get taken off the list.

I'm sick of this shit. :(

1. "Sun City"....how ironic.
I am old enough to remember the other "Sun City" -- in fact, I still have my "Ain't Gonna Play Sun City" 45. :)

My, how times (and countries) have changed.

Not. :(

2. Focus on all the people who signed and did not care that he is AA.
There will always be a few bad eggs, but it's better with each generation.

4. Who knew?
Actually, there are quite a few, though obviously the Rs are in the majority.

Recently, a county party official was speaking about the need to defeat Sheriff Joe at a Sun City Democratic club. He barely made it out alive. Many of those "Democrats" think old rootin' tootin' Joe is doing a jim dandy job of hassling brown people.

5. Yeah, that Sheriff Joe is a real work.
Hassling, detaining, arresting, and deporting brown people.
