not an intentional slur on special people. That word shouldn't be the first thing that comes to mind when one sees him but it often is. It's actually kind of sad that the word is the first thing that comes to my mind when I see him. Sounds like you think the same on at least regretting it.

Imbecile is a good word in and of itself. It seems to denote that breeding may have something to do with it as well.

I've only know one person who had true mental retardation that was not a sweet person. I took the (safe) estimation that he was abused at home by the very nasty attitude I witnessed from his mother.
