Praying for lower gas prices.....Literally.
from ABC News:

Gas Prices Bring Some People to Their Knees
Disgusted With Gas Companies and Lawmakers, Some People Turn to God
By KEITH GARVIN
April 27, 2006

They usually pray and worship inside the confines of their own church, asking God for his wisdom and intervention. But today they took their prayers across the street from a gas station in the nation's capital and asked God to lower the rising gasoline prices that have hit the wallets of Americans all across the country.

"Certainly, it's an unorthodox approach," said Bishop Myles Spires of Abundant Life Ministries International, one of the event's organizers. "But it's a necessary approach."

The prayer service was organized by PrayLive, a group that bills itself as a 24-hour prayer line and e-church. The group brought together ministers from the Washington, D.C., area as well as concerned citizens. They say they're sick of the rising gas prices and believe it's time to ask God to step in.

"This is a serious occasion for a situation that is escalating above our ability to control it. We are asking God to intervene," Bishop Donald Downing from the Heart to Heart Christian Center said as he prayed.

The prayer service came a day after a group of Democratic senators held a press conference to address the pain at the pump that so many Americans feel. Lawmakers from both parties have floated competing plans to show Americans just how concerned they are.

Senate Republicans are pushing a plan that would send $100 rebate checks to millions of taxpayers. Democrats floated the idea of a 60-day suspension in the federal tax on gasoline and diesel, a reprieve they believe would cut the cost of gasoline by more than 18 cents a gallon and reduce the price of diesel fuel by more than 24 cents a gallon. ......(more)

5. I actually saw a sign once that said, "America Bless God."
No shit. I do not exaggerate. I even filmed it and could produce a still from the video. It was painted on the back of a van and it belonged to one of those Minutemen--the people that patrol our borders to keep out all the "illegals" as they call them.
I still don't know what the f... that is supposed to mean. Anybody got any ideas?

3. Saw this on CNN w/Robin Meade this morning & thought
how totally "fundie" our society has become. For this to be reported on our "premire" news station is a total load of crap. Of course these dimwits wouldn't think to "boycott", or call Congress, or demonstrate at an oil refinery. Instead they go to a local gas station & pray. :eyes:

If there is a god, I feel sure even he thinks this is petty & stupid.
If they're gonna pray about something, how about WORLD PEACE!

7. LOL! The right incantation will bends God's will to do your bidding.
How can a person believe that A) God has a master plan, and B) I can talk God into changing that master plan at the drop of a hat?

Seems like "praying" is tantamount to saying "Hey, God, I know you're trying, but you goofed. Let me tell you how to fix things." In other words, Prayer is equivalent to blasphemy. It's second-guessing God.

10. It has been the downfall of many civilizations over the history of our
planet. Most wars were fought over religion, including the present one. They claimed it was about "Terrisum", but * could never have gotten the support of the Amurikan people for this war if not for the Christian v. Islam meme, which cloaks this war like an invisible net.

Religion is the "biggest coup of all". It keeps the people of the world divided, controls their behavior, imposes ridiculous rules on free creatures who are supposed to have "free will", while stripping them of it, sanctions abuse of women across the globe, etc...etc... etc.....

Ironically, it could be the greatest evil.

16. f religion isn't the downfall, we'll replace it with something else
And if religion isn't the downfall, we'll replace it with something else as our downfall.

For myself, I'm counting on greed as the catalyst for our eventual downfall.

12. They should be praying that a hole opens and swallows up the Chimp forever
The crashing dollar, the bottomless money pit in Iraq, the offshoring of jobs, all those problems being ignored or fostered by a certain chimpanzee are what's killing us.
