I know, this is probably a dumb topic, but shopping tonight got me wondering.
The price of kiwi fruit at Kroger's was 3 for $2.00. Earlier this week, I bought 8 for $2.00 at a family owned grocery a couple miles down the road.
He pays more because he buys less. I know this to be a fact, because I have been a long time shopper. I realize that the cost of running a major grocery versus a family owned operation has a lot more overhead.
But; still I have to wonder, what is the "gouge factor", just because we are expecting it?

1. *shrug* Loss leader? Buys locally? Better buyer? Less overhead, wages, etc? |
|
 I see the same discrepencies in produce prices at times, but there always seems to be a reasonable justification. Found that out when I realized the simplest approach was, as always, go to the source and, *ask the store*. I find they usually have a ready answer, fwiw.

to be very high! I rarely shop there...I go to Meijer's. 3 for $2.00 is INSANE!

their plastic wrap and their plastic bags when they are on sale. They're actually good. Oh...and Nature Fresh Salad Dressings....the Classic Blue Cheese is too good. I can't find it anywhere else.
