Bush says US should not walk away from NAFTA

Apparently doing so would be premature, because there are still several thousand well-paying blue-collar jobs that have not yet been destroyed.

Once all the guys/gals who are now making $18/hour on factory floors are either slinging Cinnabons for minimum wage and/or living under bridges, THEN NAFTA's mission will be complete.

Bush says US should not walk away from NAFTA
By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer Tue Apr 22, 6:29 PM ET
NEW ORLEANS - President Bush chastised lawmakers on Tuesday for letting international trade deals falter in Congress and criticized Democratic presidential contenders for wanting to scrap or amend the vast North American free-trade zone.

At the close of a two-day summit, Bush, along with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, stood solidly behind the North American Free Trade Agreement. Under NAFTA, trade between the U.S., Canada and Mexico has swelled from roughly $290 billion in 1994 to an estimated $1 trillion by the end of this year.

"Now is not the time to renegotiate NAFTA or walk away from NAFTA," Bush said. "Now is the time to make it work better for all our people. And now is the time to reduce trade barriers worldwide."

The summit was overshadowed by Tuesday's Pennsylvania Democratic presidential primary race between Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, who have threatened to pull the U.S. out of NAFTA or renegotiate it to push for more protections for workers and the environment.

Let me get this straight - America is the largest consumer economy in the world, but we don't actually make anything to export because all of our companies export their manufacture to slave-wage nations. So how the hell does lowering trade barriers help anybody but the people who OWN the overseas factories?

1. Why does he keep making statements?
Does he think anybody is still listening to him? Regarding ANYTHING?

13. Ironically I caught some M$M during the PA primary, and found it painfully obvious how...
...some of the paid actors/pundits/cheerleaders can barely conceal the point you make as they're "reporting" on how the president said this or that.

4. Whatever Bush** suggests, do the opposite
Always. Because no matter how genuine he sounds he is always plugging for the robber barons, not the majority of Americans who can only dream of the wealth he helps the wealthy elites amass and protect.

7. Where is our favorite conservative RobCon who says
NAFTA is the single greatest piece of legislation ever passed in congress? He usually shows up on these NAFTA threads proclaiming it to be the only hope for peace and prosperity throughout the world.
