Sam's Club, Costco Limit Rice Sales
http://money.aol.com/news/articles/shopping/_a/sams-club-costco-limit-rice-sales/20080423163209990001

The two biggest U.S. warehouse retail chains are limiting how much rice customers can buy because of what Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., called on Wednesday "recent supply and demand trends."

The move comes as U.S. rice futures hit a record high amid global food inflation, although one rice expert said the warehouse chains may be reacting less to any shortages than to stockpiling by restaurants and small stores

4. Why would merchants encourage the hoarding of staples
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 11:09 AM by Benhurst
unless they prices are going to suddenly plunge?

I'm usually optimistic, but I see little to indicate the price of food will be going down in the foreseeable future.

8. Because it can cost you customers.
My wife and I sometimes use sams club when looking for some staples and while we are there we might buy other things in the meantime while we are there.

Were there no stables present I would not bother to go to the stores at all..

10. Then they would NOT encourage hoarding if supplies are low,
preferring to keep their own shelves well-stocked.

That's the way I see it.

And I reluctantly approach shopping at such places the same way you and your wife do. If the staples were all whisked by hoarding consumers, I would save my gas and shop elsewhere.

5. DON'T EAT ME!!!!
When the rice runs out you people are going to start looking at the easy targets in wheelchairs. Trust me people, even with A1 sauce, I'll make a tough meal.

:)

6. Do you smoke?
Smokers taste awful.

Cannibals will avoid chowing down on smokers if they can.

Those who wish to avoid being eaten should prominently chain smoke.

9. I need to start passing a lot of gas in public.
The medicines I take make it rather oderiferous. Embarassing. But once folks get a wiff they'll think twice about eating anything that smells that bad!
