I'd like to make a recommendation about, well, recommending threads. Kick or rec if you agree!

Right now we can't recommend a thread if it's more than 24 hours old and I'd like to propose a change. Does there need to be any limit on the time? If there does, how about at least 48 or 72 hours?

I know many DU'ers, like me, aren't on DU all the time - I can't log on at work and between my work schedule and life's commitments, there are whole 24 hours of time that go by without my logging on. But there's often a thread or two or three (or six) that are still active from more than 24 hours ago that I'd really like to recommend - but I can't. Sure, I can kick it - and I do - but it would be nice to have the recommend option too.

Any thoughts?

2. I'd like it to be 48 hours, but that seems long enough.

3. I agree. 24 hours isn't long enough. 48 - 72 hours seems reasonable. nt

5. Actually I was thinking about something a bit different the other day.

I was thinking it'd be nice to have an "all-time greatest" database somewhere. So you could, for example, log on and check the greatest threads for the past week if you'd been gone. Maybe it'd be limited to threads with 20 recs or more, something like that. 40 recs or more would stay on the list for 2 weeks, 60 recs for 3 weeks, 80 recs or more for a month.

(Maybe with the exception of GDP)

48 hours might be good with that too.

6. I'd rather see the case where a rec is also a kick
As it now stands, there are threads with more recs than replies .... and they sink, even when they get to The Greatest page.

14. That's a good idea.
I've been the victim of the above scenario myself.

7. I'm fine with longer time periods, but the number of required greatest page recs should be more

Like 25 or 50. only troll can find 5 more trolls to rec his/her thread.

8. It would make the greatest page way too large
It is hard enough now to get through the long list of threads on the greatest page. If you increased the time limit and doubled it, the greatest page would almost double in size because the threads would stay on it for 48 hours instead of 24.

It doesn't seem practical in my view.

9. 72 hours would be good for the time limit.
Also, I'd like the 'edit' time limit extended to two hours,
for posts/threads.

A Rec. should also be a kick.

:)
