2. Tax evasion is stupid since they spin the dollars out of nothing
They make us earn the dollars, and then we have to pay them for the privilege???

8. True
For the complete illogic to come to pass, we have to pay interest on money spun from nothing to private bankers who provide this unbacked money to our gov't, who in turn pass the cost to us as a "tax."

and shoot other people who do the same, I'd be grinning ear to ear...assuming you could get me away from my $1000 per hour call girl long enough for me to give you an official opinion.

5. IIRC WIllie never claimed he didn't have to file or pay, he just
wound up owing a lot more than he first claimed.......

Big difference. I think Snipes fell in with the "I don't have to file or pay taxes because blah blah blah the Constitution blah blah blah" crowd.

because the SCOTUS ruled that the constitution allows congress to raise an income tax with or without the income tax amendment.

Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 05:04 PM by kestrel91316
That was one of my nicknames as a child, lol. Along with Garjula Peterkins.

Can you tell me who the original Crabby Appleton was? Maybe somebody from an old radio show like Fibber McGee and Molly or some such?? Nobody has been able to tell me.

Oh, and I also have no clue how Garjula Peterkins came about......

28. Great theme song
'My name is Crabby Appleton,
I'm rotten to the core
I do a bad deed every day,
and sometimes three or four.
I can't stand fun for anyone,
I think good deeds are sappy,
I laugh with glee, it pleases me,
when everyone's unhappy!'

13. As far as I know, Crabby was an villain on Tom Terrific
a circa '57 cartoon shown on Captain Kangaroo TV show; Crabby's motto motto was " I'm Rotten to the core!"

15. 3 years for misdemeanor convictions? This is a fucking sham.
But hey, he threaten the Judges liberty!!! Guantanamo with his ass.

But Senior U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges disagreed with her.
"Any offense that places my liberty at risk is a serious one," Hodges said.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Terrell_Hodges

The was appointed by President Richard Nixon to serve as a United States District Judge.

34. yes of course
because any judge nominated by nixon is a racist. like the late Supreme Court Justice Powell.

Just because one is a white republican does not mean automatically that they are racist. In fact most probably aren't racist.

Snipes made terrible decisions in hooking up with this wacko anti tax group and he got what he deserved for willfully refusing to file taxes. He also tried to get money back from the government via false deductions.

Chances are his sentence will be overturned or shortened on appeal.

16. It wasn't evasion- it was 3 misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file
I'm assuming that the 3 one year sentences will run consecutively. If he;s been convicted on felony evasion, we wouldn't be seeing much of him for a quite a bit longer than that....

17. This was an absolute travesty. It is obvious that the U.S. attorney and
judge was out to make an example of him. Part of the sentencing memo talked about how the MSM made it sound like Snipes had "beat" the charges. So they are punishing both Snipes and the media.

He's a high profile defendant and it puts the fear of the IRS into others who buy into crackpot schemes.

Not to mention, this is Florida....

22. I was just going to ask if that has anything to do with the IRS.
The movie America: From freedom to fascism certainly paints an ugly picture of this agency. The question is how much of this is true.

20. GOOD! FUCKING SELFISH ASSHOLE!
how much money does someone need?

I think he is doing pretty well and can afford to part with some of it. You know, like maybe pay his taxes so people who struggle like teachers, nurses, police officers and such can make at least a meager living.

He could be in there for 30 for all I care.

26. Guilty or not...
Snipes did much less damage to the US than Abramhoff, Delay, what's his nuts in California, etc. While he should pay his taxes (only because it is mandated), his sentence sucks in that those that have done far more heinous crimes still walk our streets.
