Stupid is as stupid does... local yokel news:
I spent a few years living here and it seemed like decades.

http://www.the-progress.com/story1.shtml

A 24-year-old George West man was on his way back home from Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi Tuesday afternoon after being treated for a coral snake bite.

Liz Bulsterbaum, the victim’s mother, said her son, Cody, found the snake Sunday evening and “he tried to pick it up.” She said he knew he had found a deadly coral snake and when asked why he tried to handle the reptile, she said, “He’s just Cody.”

That curious streak could have cost the George West man his life. Coral snakes inject a neurotoxin that is difficult to treat and can be fatal if the victim does not receive antivenin quickly. Fortunately, emergency medical personnel from Angel Care Ambulance Service in Beeville met Bulsterbaum halfway between George West and Beeville and they rushed him to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. By the time he arrived, local authorities had contacted Halo-Flight, the Corpus Christi-based helicopter ambulance operation. The victim was then rushed to Spohn Memorial where doctors had antivenin waiting for him.

“He was in ICU for a couple of days,” Mrs. Bulsterbaum said. But the antivenin worked and he began recovering quickly.

3. You have to really try to get bitten by a coral snake....

That said, the overwhelming number of snakebite cases involve young males, and most of those involve.... alcohol.

(and it ain't just in Texas):

Party trick with rattlesnake backfires in a big way

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Snake collector Matt Wilkinson of Portland grabbed a 20-inch rattler from the highway near Maupin, and three weeks later, to impress his ex-girlfriend, he stuck the serpent in his mouth.

He was soon near death with a swollen tongue that blocked his throat. Trauma doctors at the Oregon Health and Science University saved his life.

"You can assume alcohol was involved," he said. Actually, not just beer. It was something he called a "mixture of stupid stuff."

She said, 'Get that thing out of my face,"' Wilkinson said. "I told her it was a nice snake. 'Nothing can happen. Watch."'

So he stuck the snake in his mouth.

"It got a hold of my tongue," he said.

He was having breathing problems when his ex-girlfriend drove him to the hospital. "She was the only one sober," Wilkinson said.

4. We Need To Let People Like This Die
Another example of the MORONS that are taking up vital airspace in our society.

Folks here like to send prayers and well wishes to Tony SnowJob, and probably to people like this too.

I'd not lose any sleep over the former, or IDIOTS like this one, paying a price for their stupidity.

Oh, and as for the other guy, I ALWAYS stick a snake in my mouth when I want to impress a woman. I wonder if he's single now.

5. "Yellow meets Red, and you're dead"
as opposed to the King snake that gave me quite a start once while hiking through the Rockies.

other popular folk sayings related...
"Red on black is a friend of Jack, black on yellow can kill a fellow."
"Red and yellow, kill a fellow; red and black, venom lack".
" black touches yellow he's a fine fellow, black touches red then you're dead"
"Red next to yellow will kill a fellow, red next to black is OK, Jack."

6. This is the second bite here in a week.
In the other, a woman was bitten when she tried to get the snake away from her paralyzed daughter. The thing is, there are only 100 vials of coral snake anit-venom made for the entire US every year. So they have had to bring it in from elsewhere to treat just these two cases.
