They had forewarning and they failed to act. Americans died.


The Iraq War
a sham and a pretense that 9/11 gave them cover for. Iraq was contained and Saddam was going nowhere and was a threat to no one,least of all the US. He also had nothing to do with 9/11. Americans and Iraqis died.


Torture
The Bush administration threw out civilization and basic humanity and attempted to legitimize the return to the Dark Ages and the Spanish Inquisition in the interest of "National Security". People died.


Katrina
The Bush Administration demonstrated depraved indifference about the welfare of the citizens of an American city that was catastrophically effected by a natural disaster. Americans died.

8. I wasn't even trying consciously to pick just 4

But the 4 that I picked, I think are the clearest. They don't require you to be particularly well-informed, or knowledgable about the "inside baseball" aspects of so much of what is discussed in forums like DU.

The 4 are just very clear examples of extremely flawed humans making extremely flawed and even illegal and immoral choices that impacted those of us not involved in the bad decision making.

I think common knowledge has filtered down to most people that 9/11 could have conceivably been prevented,
We didn't need the Iraq War, Torture was a choice that was discussed and vetted by those at the top, and Katrina was even more of a human disaster than a natural one.
