Insanity about the Pledge of Allegiance done in Spanish. (xposted from WI folder)
http://cf.channel3000.com/c3k/sh/con_surveycontest_disp...

<snip> As a veteran, Al Decker said he can’t let slide an incident in which students said the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish at Edgerton High School last month. Decker will bring six to eight veterans from the VFW and American Legion to Monday’s school board meeting to protest the incident, the Edgerton resident and Army veteran said.

“It’s disrespectful and it’s unpatriotic,” Decker said. “The pledge was designed here in the United States, and it was designed in English, and I believe that’s the way it should be.”

Edgerton High School broadcasts the pledge over the intercom every day, Principal Jim Halberg said. On March 11, he allowed a Spanish class to say the pledge in Spanish.

WTF? You've got to read the comments. These people are not only morans they're INSANE morans. I think I'm going to make the 1 hour trek out to Edgerton and counter protest. This really pisses me off.

1. I have never understood what is supposed to be either unpatriotic or disrespectful about things

spoken in Spanish.

These people must really be fucked in their heads.

2. if I'm not mistaken at W's first innauguration they did the pledge in English and Spanish
Someone commented about doing the pledge in sign language. I wonder if the vets are pissed about that too? Personally, I don't think they should even be saying the pledge in public school. I know some people who live in that area and they got called by the school because their son refused to participate in the pledge. They messed with the wrong parent on that call. The kid still gets glares from the teacher but they no longer try to force him to stand up and pledge.

3. The Pledge was also "designed" without mention of God. By a socialist, at that.
But I bet that Mr. Decker doesn't care about facts; he only wants to grunt "Americuh FIRST!!!!" at those horrible settlers from furren lands.

4. I hate people who confuse that kind of bullshit with true patriotism
Okay maybe they fought for our country and I'm proud of them for doing so but didn't they fight FOR freedom? Do they know what the word freedom means? Idiots. Fortunately I can say that not all Wisconsinites are stupid that way.

6. That's insane
those scumbags will complain about the Pledge rendered in Spanish, but don't seem to mind if "those people" join the military and go blow things up for the good ol' USA. Will they make up their minds?

growing up my 6th grade teacher (ironically named Mr Bush)
One of the best teachers i ever had.
Anyway he always stress how the united state was a melting pot.
In my neighborhood, some of the older folks still spoke german in public.
(milwaukee -not Hamburg for those curious.)
I think my teacher would have been a bit unhappy with Mr Decker,I know I am.
I guess you have melting pots only when times are good.
Times like know--you have scapegoats.
