Bush to Take Final Comedic Bow at White House Press Dinner
:bounce: :bounce:

Our long national nightmare is finally coming to an end.

But not before he gets in some "hilarious" one-liners about torture, the price of gas, 4,000 dead in Iraq, the mortgage crisis, etc., etc.

You know, all the stuff that doesn't bother him.

For years, President Bush has been entertaining us with his verbal blunders, embarrassing gaffes, and other hilarious pratfalls.

But he's also been a reliable source of intentional comedy as well. During his appearances over the years at Washington's annual media galas, Bush has proven adept at playing the role of comedian in chief.

On Saturday, Bush will make his final appearance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the comedy showcase that caps off Washington's so-called "Silly Season." (Highlights from this year's comedy circuit include Bush singing an amusing farewell song at the Gridiron dinner and Dick Cheney yukking it up at the Radio & TV Correspondents' dinner.)

CBS "Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson will be the official entertainer at this year's dinner. But in keeping with tradition, Bush is expected to get in a few comedic parting shots as he takes a final bow before the White House press corps and members of the Washington elite.

8. They DO have the same agenda - staying in the Golden Circle, getting relected, getting raises . . .
Whatever it takes to keep pulling in those six- and seven-figure salaries for the hacks of the world - Matthews, Dowd, Brooks, Will.

Whatever it takes to keep getting invitations to the right cocktail parties, and paying off that Georgetown condo, and getting to be on the tee-vee on an ongoing basis, at least until the kids are finished at Brown and Williams.

For the Chimp, Cheney and whoever else is left - whatever it takes to keep their hands on the levers of power, and whatever it takes to guarantee those lucrative board memberships and CEO gigs after the White House gravy train shudders to a stop.

It's not about us, or the "free press" or the Constitution, and it sure as hell isn't about "we the people" - it's all about them, and what's in it for them.

9. Washington society is very seductive for reporters
Membership in private clubs and societies, access to the latest twitter, being seen in the right groups -- all of that is held out to the young plummy journalists. Old Washington Society has accepted people like Sally Quinn, Cokie Roberts, Pat Buchanan, George Will, and younger people like Campbell Brown. It's extremely heady to be part of the powerful. You oughta see the inside of the Cosmos Club. Whoo-ee! Old Washington Society considers itself more enduring and strong than any particular administration.
