That freed up thousands of German workers for more useful applications of their labor and time, in service of the State.

The American approach is to co-opt all the newspapers, so that there is the appearance of diversity and press freedom, but the content of them all is owned and edited and massaged by the same five or six corporate owners.

There are actually only six newspapers in America, this way, though they masquerade as hundreds. By the same corporate dominance of media, education, and culture there are only six television stations, only six elementary schools, only six churches, only six cities, only six prisons, only six of everything in America.
