Homeless begin moving back into Ontario tent "safer, more sanitary" city

ONTARIO – Homeless people are being allowed to return to what Ontario city officials say is a safer, more sanitary “tent city”.

City of Ontario Housing Director Brent Schultz says 32 people moved in to the renovated site near Ontario International Airport Tuesday and dozens more will move in over the next several days.

Hundreds were evicted last month and moved to a nearby alternative site while city officials graded the land, installed a gate and portable toilets.

1. This is what they should have done in Florida, instead of
destroying tents and peoples lives, that actually had some stability in Tent City. Shame on St. Petersburg.

4. You'd rather have people hiding out and getting thrown in jail?
There's already a campground in every city, would you rather it remained illegal, criminalizing the homeless?

5. Why do you hop all over me as if I'm saying something negative?
This fucking board is starting to drive me fucking crazy. I'm pissed off because in this, the so-called "greatest country on the planet," we have people who are so poor them must live in tents. Why is that? Why don't we have a safety net that would help people out and put a bona fide roof over their heads, provide healthcare and make sure they're fed until they get their lives sorted out? Call me crazy, but it makes me teary to know my fellow men are holed up in fucking tent cities.:grr: By the way - exactly what did you think my original comment meant? That I didn't want them dirtying up the view from the golf course or something? Didn't want the view from the McMansion spoiled?

6. Because good people are fighting long hard battles
to get tent cities established all over the country. Because they are an important step in the battle for homeless people's dignity. You act like we can just "solve" homelessness through government action but the reality is a lot more complicated. We need tent cities and they don't just happen--good people fight for them.

As for me, I am more ashamed of the people in overpriced shacks in ugly fucking suburbs than people living in tents.

7. It's very sad if the goal is to house human beings in tents.
I am ashamed of this country.

8. Why does it have to have gates? Can they be locked from the outside?

2. A start
Next, seize for back taxes and renovate some of the empty store fronts and houses that are victims to the mortgage bust and make them available to low income renters.
