The music of your life
Music has always been important in my life.
I can hear a song and remember where I was and what I was doing.
Growing up the 70's...rock and roll was IT.
In the 90's...I liked country.

More and more these days...I find myself thinking about the words of this song:

And...for some weird reason...I still find Travis Tritt quite sexy...and this is without even knowing his politics.:P

All around I hear the sound of money
But I ain't got a nickel to my name
And everywhere I look I see temptation
She stands on every corner and calls my name

Won't you tell me if you can
Cause life's so hard to understand
Why's the rich man busy dancing
While the poor man pays the band
Oh they're billing me for killing me
Lord have mercy on the working man

Uncle Sam's got his hands in my pockets
And he helps himself each time he needs a dime
Them politicians treat me like a mushroom
Cause they feed me bull and keep me in the blind

Won't you tell me if you can
Cause life's so hard to understand
Why's the rich man busy dancing
While the poor man pays the band
Oh they're billing me for killing me
Lord have mercy on the working man

Hey, St. Peter look down for a minute
And see this little man about to drown
There's quicksand all around and man I'm in it
Please help me up Lord cause I'm going down

Won't you tell me if you can
Cause life's so hard to understand
Why's the rich man busy dancing
While the poor man pays the band
Oh they're billing me for killing me
Lord have mercy on the working man

Won't you tell me if you can
Cause life's so hard to understand
Why's the fat man busy dancing
While the thin man pays the band
Oh they're billing me for killing me
Lord have mercy on the working man

Please, Lord have mercy on the working man
Please, Lord have mercy on the working man

1. One of my favorites as my recent life as a mod :)
Will It Go Round In Circles
by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher

I've got a song I ain't got no melody
How'm I gonna sing it with my friends
I've got a song I ain't got no melody
How'm I gonna sing it with my friends

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

I've got a lil' story ain't got no moral
Let the bad guy win every once in a while
I've got a lil' story ain't got no moral
Let the bad guy win every once in a while

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

I've got a lil' dance ain't got no steps
I'm gonna let the music move me around
I've got a dance I ain't got no steps
I'm gonna let the music move me around

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

I've got a song I ain't got no melody
How'm I gonna sing it with my friends
I've got a song I ain't got no melody
How'm I gonna sing it with my friends

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

go around/round in circles
1. if you go round in circles when you are discussing something or trying to achieve something, you do not make any progress because you keep going back to the same subjects or the same problems.. I need some more data to work on, otherwise I'm just going round in circles. We can't go round in circles all day - someone will have to make a decision.
2. to use a lot of time and effort trying to do something, without making any progress. We spent the whole day running around in circles looking for a document which everyone thought was lost but which wasn't.

4. on a serious note, one of my all time favorites is Redemption
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7pAvbjChQM

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
---
/Guitar break/
---
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.
Won't you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

6. I was just in Straight Story's thread and reminiscing about school
In 6th grade (which would have been about 1974-1975, our music teacher would bring his guitar to school and teach us songs like Leaving on a Jet Plane, Blowing in the Wind, One Tin Soldier...etc.
I always smile when I think about it because we learned all of the great anti-war songs and sang them loudly and proudly and never once knew we were ALSO protesting the Vietnam War.:patriot:
I sincerely hope our teacher is having a wonderful retirement and smiling the same smile that I do when I think about his passion against the war.

7. I sang "Leaving on a Jet Plane" in my 6th grade talent show
And I had no idea what I was singing about at the time.

And another great one is "Where have all the Flowers Gone"
