Anyone see the Pelosi/Newt Gingrich "climate change" TV ad . . . !!!
Why would Pelosi lend any legitimacy to Newt Gingrich?

And, why so cozy?

The Democrats are capable of making an ad like this alone --- they've been alone out there
on Global Warming with all denial from the GOP.

Now redeeming them?

Disgusting!!!

1. It's a standard GOP trick.
Make it appear as though you really give a shit about something, then turn around and undermine efforts to fix it from behind the scenes.

2. I wish it were someone less politically dangerous than Newt, like Hastert, but...
if it helps get more traction for such an important issue then maybe sometimes you go ahead and cozy up to the devil.

8. No -- I think it simply confuses the issue by suggesting that BOTH the Dems and GOP have
awakened to the issue and find it legitimate!!!

The GOP has been fighting against the reality of GW and using propaganda to keep the public from
understanding the dangers and what is actually going on !!!

The Dems could have gotten "traction" for the issue with an ad of their own ---
they needed NEWT GINGRICH to give them credibility????

5. Even lip service is progress
In the 50's and 60's, there was open racism in congress, now it's a matter of flushing out policies that are racisist in an under-handed way. Climate change seems to be playing out the same way. Everybody's on board publicly, but the devil's in the details.

I think this change of face had a lot to do with parts of their base actually worrying about the climate. Hard-core chirstians to some degree are concerned about the destruction of God' creation, and conservative ranchers are dealing with the effects of drought, which is affecting their bottom line.

I don't know if this will happen, but if the environment is improved because of a race to see which party can do it first, that might not be a bad thing. What's more likely is that the Republicans will hold us back while trying to take credit for helping.

12. I think the reality is much worse --- we are probably past the tipping point . . .
YET, we must still react as though we have a chance ---

This is not only about our species --- the planet itself may not survive.

Global Warming is here now and we are on the brink, IMO, of having some very severe things begin
to happen.

It isn't a time for junk ads like this ---

The public only began to awaken to the issue of GW about three or four years ago ---
I don't think they really have a clue as to its severity/dangers ---

An ad like this is will only benefit the GOP/Newt --- and do nothing for the environment.

What was the message --- did we hear anything about nationalizing our oil industry?
Anything about electric cars? Alternative energy?

18. The planet
will be just fine. In fact, what is happening now is the planet developing a fever to rid itself of an infection; namely us.

25. I used to think that . . . and I hope youre're right . . .
However, the rapid changes in melting, the earthquakes which are expected and a possible polar shift ... may not keep the earth turning. I came to understand that about 15 years ago.

Again --- I hope you're right!

we need to change culture ---
we need to nationalize the oil industry --
we need to replace every gas-guzzler on the highways with electric cars --- in 3 to 5 years.

See: "Who Killed The Electric Car?"

This ad does nothing for anyone except the GOP and Newt Gingrich ---

and certainly does nothing for the environment ---

It's generally a stupid, "We're on it, don't worry, be happy" piece of crap ---

:wtf:
I thought Pelosi was supposed to be one of those leaders. If she isn't going to do anything then what the hell is the use of contacting her?

If she really wants something done, put some legislation on the table. Starting with impeachment of the one who is destroying all the environmental protection laws.

21. That's the part that gets me - it's fine for him to say, since he's out of office
But for her to talk about "talking to our leaders" when she is one just makes here look hollow. If you care about it, take action - don't make fluffy commercials telling us to ask you to do something... :eyes:

20. What's the problem? This attitude is the one we've...
been complaining about he other side having-- partisan to the core and refusing to budge.

If Gingrich is real about global warning, and there's no reason to think he isn't, then why complain? Why not be glad he's on our side?

Or, is it just easier to bitch about that scumbag Gingrich and set things back a few more years?

Baby... bathwater...
