3. Hi, Nell
:hi:

I've heard that moron on television several times today trying to spin these meaningless checks as something to write home about.

Think about it -- 600 bucks MAY supply you with enough gas for one month.

2. What they will do
is to provide a small short term stimulus at the cost of aggravating one of the underlying fundamental problems--the deficit.

It's a cheap feel good trick that will help short term and harm long term.

4. But they will help "the vote"
They are intended to "stimulate" those who thing the gov't just gave them something for nothing to vote for the current party "in charge."

The 29% of backwash idiots will vote repub because a repub gave them money.

The economy...yeah, well some will think it looks good on paper and some will believe it.

6. All the talk was about people running out and buying
big ticket items to jump start the retail sector.

I think with the price of fuel, people will hold on the the $ as long as possible, and just use it to pay bills, which is a big government fear.

11. The 'rebate checks' will delay the economic depression UNTIL........
after the elections. Isn't it great to ADD to the National Debt looming at 10 Trillion dollars?

19. Today I heard that Bush said
he hopes people will use it to pay for food and gas. Doesn't that seem ODD to him that's what people do with a "windfall" these days? No iPhone, no run down to Cabo San Lucas, just the basics for survival, ma'am. :grr:

23. It may begin to pay
part of the increase in the costs I will pay for gas and food since they first voted on the thing. That's the only help I get. It won't do shit for the economy. We need a massive infrastructure renewal program for everything from roads to sewrs, water distribution, et al.

And Haliburton and friends need to be off limits in the contracting.

Anyway, that would be a good start

24. The first step
in fixing this economy is to re-build the manufacturing sector. We must start making our own shit. We import damn near everything.

The next step is to promote entrepreneurship. That means the small guy can't be at a disadvantage simply because he does not benefit from the same economies of scale as the big guys he competes with. It also means that the little guy has access to health care. Without that he has little incentive to assume the risk of starting a new venture competing with Goliath.

Tax rebate? Mine is going to be used to pay basic expenses.

28. I agree
But...they may alleviate some of the suffering.
A few hundred extra bucks will go for food, gas, utilities...etc.
It surely isn't going to be disposable income for many.
I can pretty much guarantee that.

The guy is an educated man, but total idiot. Was laughing that the Democrats keep sayin the economy is bad, but it CAN'T be bad off if the government was sending everybody money!

Havocdad had a VERY long day keeping from tossing the idiot out in the middle of nowhere.
