What did Arianna Huffington say to Bill Maher to which he replied "gay husband" and Taibbi remark..
On tonight's Bill Maher show there was an exchange where Maher replied to Huffington by saying something about at least he didn't have a gay husband. Then Matt Taibbi said something else.

I missed it; can someone fill me in?

25. Actually, both are acceptable.
I like "fora" better too, but "forums" is more likely to be understood.

31. Thanks for the response.
Actually, I was just being asinine.

Yes, both are accepted, but, you are quite correct in that "forums" is indeed more likely to be understood (given today's cultural expertise).

Cheers.

3. I think she said something like
that Bill had slept with more black women than Barack Obama. I thought his retort was undeservedly mean, perhaps indicating that he felt sleeping with black women was something to be embarrassed about.

I wish Taibbi would talk more. I thought a good reply to Maher saying "At least I didn't have a gay husband" would have been, "Well Bill, if you had a husband, he really ought to be gay."

6. i remember Bill saying the same thing himself once
so i don't know why he would be embarrassed about it. maybe it was the way Arianna said or meant it.

7. Gasp - seriously, I gasped
when I read the OP. That seems like a really nasty retort. But maybe since they're friends, it IS a joke between them?

She stole that schtick from Sarah Silverman, by the way.

Maher hasn't been that funny this season - since he's been wearing suits and ties. Hmmmm.

9. My assumption.
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 01:44 AM by Agrius
Based on the interaction, I believe (assume) Maher took it as a jab at his old relationship with Coco Johnson (his black ex-girlfriend) whom unsuccessfully sued him for Palimony.

Absolutely entertaining.

39. Subversive dialogue
Well, Arianna got a lot more than the 9 million Coco sued for when she left her ex. And Bill can't talk, Coco looks a little Tranny to me.

Maher: Ex is serial shakedown artist

Arianna's friends said she married her rich republican with full knowledge that he was bi, and shook him down for a bigo payola at the divorce, then turned liberal and is now the epitome of the American Dream in her 7 mil mansion:

Hence the need for a spoiler alert

36. Oh, come on....
I can understand wanting a "spoiler" alert for a drama, movie or some other tv show, but not a talk show. Like it really revealed anything or ruined any surprises.

Heck, if it hadn't of been brought up, people probably would have missed the party anyway.

38. "What did Arianna Huffington say to Bill Maher to which he replied "gay husband" and Taibbi remark"
Kinda suggests actual content within the thread. Common sense dictates "don't click" if you don't want to know.

It's a reason to complain, tho.

16. My one hope is that Gary Shandling is never invited back.
I really looked forward to hearing Phil Donahue and Ariana Huffington and what I wound up with was Shandling trying desperately to be funny (and failing). I'm guessing he wasted half the show talking about shit that made no sense. Sad that the final show of the season had to be ruined with two great guests and Matt Taibbi onboard.

just waiting for the rim shot. Contributes only non-funny one liners.

Martin Short is brilliant -- funny and VERY knowledgeable.

24. I think Bill should realize sometimes that 2 good guest is better
than 2 good guests and one has-been comic. Shandling interrupted everyone. Taibbi managed to get only a couple of words in. Would have been a much better discussion without Gary.

23. I agree:
It was encouraged by Maher's almost hysterical laughter at Shandling's annoying dominance of the entire show. This was the first time I ever thought of Bill Maher as an unsophisticated talk-show hack.

27. Shandling was a disaster. I thought he might have been talking through pain killers because of his
knee. Then when he started to build up McCain and said that McCain probably had a good reason to vote against the GI Bill, I wrote him off completely.

for most of the show because Shandling (with his nonsense) and Huffington wouldn't shut up. I think Phil was pretty quite because he's a gentleman and wouldn't talk over the other guests in order to get his opinion in.

30. Yes, the season ender was the dullest show of the season.
I thought Maher was upset about something. He was unable to connect with his audience (which was enthusiastic at the start). His "New Rules" fell flat, especially with his plug for his anti-religion movie obviously inserted there. His opening monologue bombed. If I was forced to find an external cause, it might be Democratic Primary Fatigue. (You've seen that around here.) But I'm almost certain it's personal for him.
