I Found The Prettiest Marijuana Plant
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 10:57 AM by ThomWV
This post is of no importance at all. Don't say I didn't warn you. However if you have comments about pot plants in general I'd be more than happy to hear what you have to say.

I was out riding my motorcycle the other day and I stopped to look at the foundation of a long gone building way out in the country. I stop a lot for the oddest reasons. When I got back to the bike I looked down and there was the prettiest marijuana plant you ever saw. I've seen a few in my time, this was not a case of mistaken identity. The plant was only a couple of inches tall, it had its first couple of sets of leaves. The thing about it, and what made it so very pretty, was that it was a deep purple color, very much like you'd see on the outer skin of a red onion. Wrong drug, but my mind struck up the opening cord from Purple Haze immediately. I was tempted to dig it up and bring it home, but I did not think it would survive the trip on the bike. Besides, I really don't have any use for it. I imagine some local kid parked the car (old pickup more likely in the area I was in) and fired up a blunt, this thing came from a seed that survived the fire. Oh, to be young again.

7. No, you are correct, you don't. But when I quit smoking cigarettes at 50 I quit smoking everything.
I could not see where it was better to smoke one thing than another so that was the last year of the puff for me for anything, and that was over a decade ago.

21. But wait . . you sound perfectly coherent in this post.
Didn't years of smoking pot destroy your mind . . and then didn't the ravages of pot withdrawal make you destitute and homeless and incapable of communicating with "normal" people? Fear of such consequences is why at 66 I have no intention of going through dreaded pot withdrawal.

I also (finally) quit smoking cigarettes, because I dearly wanted to. I never wanted to quit Mary Jane because she never treated me like Tobacco did. Pot and Tobacco are not the same. Neither are babies and bath water.

37. I smoked Camels, it was about the same
No, it wasn't that there was a difference, it was really more of not ingesting smoke. I realize that there is nothing to indicate that smoking pot hurts you at all, but I'm not convinced enough to believe that inhaling smoke would do me any good. Of course there were other reasons too, but when you think about it they are just after the fact rationalizatons. I suppose the real reason is I just didn't have any desire at all so smoke any weed; nothing conscious about it. If I'd have wanted to smoke some I certainly would have, its not like I have any particular objection to the stuff. Its kind of like seeing Asparagus on the menu at a restraunt. There isn't a chance in hell I'll order it, none at all. But I eat asparagus, I eat it any time my wife makes it and its on the table in front of me. Weed is about the same to me, I'm just not at a point in my life when anyone is very likely to lay it on the table in front of me.

I hadn't had any in the house for years.. all paraphenalia distributed to other's who'd enjoy.. but for the strangest reason I wanted to smoke.. so, my dear husband got a little bit for a tiny joint and we smoked it... Its really a shame that marijuana is an illegal drug.. Stupid people, stupid Washington.. AND I know hemp doesn't have anything to do with marijuana, but marijuana is the reason for the idiocy surrounding hemp being grown.. Stupid people, stupid Washington.

5. Are you sure it wasn't just ditch weed?
99 Percent Of All Marijuana Plants Eradicated In US Is Feral Hemp, Federal Data Reveals

September 2, 2004 - Washington, DC, USA

Washington, DC: Approximately ninety-nine percent of all marijuana eradicated by the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program in 2003 was feral hemp-not cultivated marijuana, according to figures recently published online by the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics.

According to the DEA data, of the estimated 247 million marijuana plants destroyed by law enforcement in 2003, more than 243 million were classified as "ditch weed," a term the agency uses to define "wild, scattered marijuana plants no evidence of planting, fertilizing, or tending." Unlike cultivated marijuana, feral hemp contains virtually no detectable levels of THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana, and does not contribute to the black market marijuana trade.

NORML Foundation Executive Director Allen St. Pierre criticized the program for spending millions of taxpayers' dollars eradicating hemp. "Hemp is grown legally throughout most the Western world as a commercial crop for its fiber content, yet the US government is spending taxpayers' money to target and eradicate this same agricultural commodity," he said, noting that many of today's current hemp plots are remnants of US-government subsidized crops that existed prior to World War II. "Virtually all wild hemp goes unharvested and presents no legitimate threat to public safety. As such, it should be of no concern to the federal government or law enforcement."

6. When I was a kid back in the early 70s we went to NE/KS to visit
relatives. We took a drive across the state line to the old family homestead in Phillips Co, KS and were wandering around and my grandfather was reminiscing.

The place was FULL of wild marijuana - I assume they were escaped hemp from the days when they used to farm it. We all had a good laugh - none of us had actually seen it before except my dad (who was a career USAF officer, so figure THAT one out, lol), IIRC.

14. Ah, the K-Weed
Brings back a lot of memories. There's still lots of it around Kansas, especially in or near tree rows. A friend of ours has a stand of it on her property. She says that kids will pull up in the middle of the night and raid it (as opposed to the "adults" that raid her sweet corn). In actuality it is pretty weak stuff and will give you a headache before a buzz. Back in the day some dealers would mix the K-Weed with the other stuff to increase their profits.

67. I seem to remember an evening of chair dancing after some cookies
Don't ask me why or even how it started but I remember one summer evening at a party where we all found ourselves standing on chairs. Some song came on and the next thing we knew we were chair dancing. The chairs, most of them wooden, seemed glued to our feet and we made them hop around the room in time to the music. It was wild.

At least I think it happened. I still know a few of the people that participated and they seem to remember it happening. It would have made a great youtube video.

Phill, what a loser. Phill's ego is too big to fit inside a trunk. If he was trying to hide in a trunk they wouldn't be able to shut it.

36. I went on a camping trip last year
and I came home to take a shower and there was a TICK burrowed in right between my pubes and my leg... right there in the crease.

I went to pull it out and its head was still stuck in!

I sort of freaked, and I didn't know what to do... should I go to the doctor? Should I try to get it out myself? What should I do?

Finally I decided to try to get it out myself, and I figured if I made a small cut then I could mess with it and get the head out. The only sharp knife I had was an 8" Henckles (sp) chopping knife, and I actually took it out and sat there for a few seconds with the knife willing myself to make the cut when suddenly I came to my senses!

Like, hello? Femoral artery?

I pictured myself lying dead in a MASSIVE pool of blood and the autopsy report concluding I was trying to cut out a tick head and I decided there was a more sensible way to go about it.

I got a pair of tweezers and a needle and messed with it for about 5 minutes and got everything out.

Good times.

56. Dang right. NE Kansas is still full of pot. And the good thing is that the
seeds often germinate two or three years after they are planted, so the Nazis trying to eradicate ditch weed can't really do it.

I have no idea if it's worth smoking or not, but I like the idea that they can't get rid of it.

It was worthless to smoke. It's leftover from WWII when the local farmers were growing Hemp to make rope.

There was a notice posted than anyone caught drying it to smoke would be prosecuted. Might as well smoke an old cow flop.

A trip out to Provincetown carried it's own celebratory conclusion. Seeds would be sifted out and saved to be tossed at the side of the road by the pink bridge on the way out of town.

I often wonder what the highway crew thought of their constant battle against that funny looking weed--where it came from and why it refused to stay gone.

At least you now know a place to harvest in a few weeks, for old time's sake. Provincetown is two thousand miles distant from me.

You don't smoke any more? There are plenty of ways to prepare it in food.. Eating it is a whole different ride.. Very medicinal.. Make sure to read up on it first though..

Its up very close to 3,000 feet and in an area that gets very cold and stays that way late into the fall. Its also about 40 miles from here and on the side of a road that gets very heavy motorcycle traffic on nice days - its one of the finest twisties in the eastern US; not the Tail of the Dragon, but West Virginia's equal to it. Not much chance of that little bugger lasting long where its at.

57. Right . . . and although I no longer enjoy since I have a job I like (heh),
there are ways of concentrating the THC in ditch weed. THC is not water soluble, so you can't make a tea out of it.

But it is oil and alcohol soluble, so soaking it in Everclear (100 percent ethyl alcohol) is a good place to start.

The marvel of the internet can take you through the rest of the steps, if you're interested . . .

50. People here even smoke ganja in public
and others smoke it in private. Many old people soak it in rum and take a teaspoon as tonic early in the morning. You can always smell herb at sporting events, music shows, weddings and funerals.
They don't give a damn and we'll never have enough police to stop it. People call the talk shows to tell the police to solve crime and leave people in peace. We have friends who have ganja parties where experts get together and share blends as others would share their best wines.
The only way you get arrested for herb in Jamaica is if police find a big stash in your car in a traffic stop or if you are an exporter.

All the crap written about ganja is rubbish. It is not habit forming and when used socially does no harm.
Hubby and I used to share a spliff when we came home from work the way others had a drink.

is one of the most versatile plants ever to grace this planet...so many uses...but because you can smoke the leaves of some strains to get high, we can't grow it here legally.

From Wikipedia:
Hemp is cultivated virtually everywhere in the world except for the United States, and its cultivation in western countries is growing steadily. For example, Canadian Hempseed exports surged 300% last year.

Just like almost everything else, the world is ahead of us in it's thinking.

32. When I lived in Detroit people would plant seeds all over the city, some
on police and politician's property. It was the people's way of "Greening" Detroit.

I remember when friend bought a farm in rural Michigan. When I went out to an old garden I saw a plant a good seven feet tall. It was cut down and dried. Some was used for an herbal tea.

39. Having been to Amsterdam several times, that plant is very beautiful

When grown outdoors, they get REALLY big. The female plants (the ones that produce actual smoked marijuana) are actually really exotic looking. There are so many species of the plants, colors, heights, widths, leaf size, flower size, etc. I smoke very very very occasionally btw. I'm a college graduate with a good career. I don't care who knows. Alcohol is FAR more dangerous.

43. Reminds me of a funny story from years ago
Some friends of mine who went to Davis & Elkins stumbled on a large patch of mature plants, much like you describe, somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia.

They couldn't believe their luck, and so stuffed their packs with as much bud as they could. They called me that night, elated- describing (in detail) how beautiful it was- thinking they'd be rich!

Unfortunately, after drying some of the stuff and lighting it up... no buzz. Try as they would, all it gave them was a headache....

Seems industrial hemp is still endemic to those parts.

45. went mushroom hunting today
in our woods and since my husband is considering retirement in a year or so we also scouted places for planting a few marijuana seeds for a 'retirement crop.' I have no idea just how safe that plan would be these days. perhaps we could just say it was growing wild?!

No comparison, other than the color.

55. I always thought that hemp was an attractive plant. I used to grow one in
my apartment at college . . . looked like a houseplant.

In fact, the common houseplant "false aralia" looks very similar to pot.

They grow to be 30 feet. Beautiful trees. But, smoking it won't do a thing for you.
