As those who can afford to turn in their gas guzzling SUVs ..... they ***will*** live on.
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 07:53 PM by Husb2Sparkly
I read someplace just yesterday or today that there is a new glut on the market ...... SUVs. Specifically, used SUVs. More specifically, big, honking, gas guzzling SUVs.

People are shocked when they see how little they're worth as trade-ins.

Which means they're getting sold for cheap money.

And who do you suppose is buying them?

Why ..... poor people, of course. To get to minimum wage jobs. At sixty, seventy, eighty bux a tank full.

Oh ...... those 'stimulus' checks? They'll go right to Exxon-Mobil's bank account, then offshore to a tax free haven someplace.

edit to add the word 'who' in the title

2. Yup...
that "stimulus check" is coming at just the right time to be sucked up by Bush's oil buddies.

With all of their ability to accomplish evil, just think of what they could do if they sought to accomplish the good...

12. If I implied I thought that, then I wasn't clear
What I was implying is that the most dependable and likely cheapest used cars will be SUVs. Fuel efficient cars will be selling for a premium.

If I implied that poor people are stupid, I communicated poorly.

16. You're right on there.
If you need a budget vehicle, it's much better to find a 90's model Geo Metro than a 90's model Ford Explorer.

10. About seventy for my dad to fill his
I suppose he's rich compared to most these days. PR Director for a semi-local hospital where he earns somewhere around 4K a month (after taxes).

Living in Northern Maine, it's pretty hard to get to work in the winter without a powerful four wheel drive. Not to mention all the moose. Well, hey, it's not MY SUV.

Seriously though, I doubt he has any intentions of selling it. He can't afford a new used car either.

15. Some of them will be shipped out of the country
to countries with lower gasoline prices in the Middle East and in Central and South America. We can't afford the damned things any more, but middle class people who still have cheap gas will snap 'em right up, just the way they did the gas hogs in the late 70s when nobody wanted them.

Poor folks will get the ones in lousy condition that were all over the road.
