Mary Pallant Plans to Unseat Elton Gallegly
California's 24th District is grotesquely misrepresented by Cheney-Bush rubber stamper Elton Gallegly, who is ready to start his lobbying career on K Street but who was talked into running again by the Republican Party. People are energized to unseat him, and three Democrats are running in the primary. One of them stands out, and is standing next to me in the attached photo: Mary Pallant.

Pallant is for single-payer health coverage:

"The only way you can be sure to get great affordable health care is to go to prison or go to Congress because the government subsidizes both. But assuming you and your family don’t want to do either, we need to understand that it is almost impossible for us to continue on the current path we are on of rising insurance premiums, less coverage, 1000’s uninsured here in our district. Single Payer will return the care back over to your doctors and hospitals and away from administrators sitting miles away in a cubicle making decisions about your health and well being. Single Payer is comprehensive coverage for all and will greatly reduce the financial burden on businesses and families who struggle to pay insurance premiums."

She's for withdrawing from Iraq completely:

"It is time to bring our troops home: combat, support and private contractors. Mary wants all bases closed and turned over to the Iraqi Government and the rebuilding efforts must be turned over to the people of Iraq. We must also set aside adequate funds to rebuild what has been destroyed while calling upon the neighboring countries to be engaged and involved members of the rehabilitation process to stabilize, revitalize and formalize Iraq and its political structure."

She's for shifting our priorities:

"The 2 to 3 billion dollars a week we are spending in Iraq will get a much better return on investment if we invest here in our infrastructure, create green collar jobs, boost manufacturing, and assist with the sub-prime loan debacle. Wages have stagnated over the last several years, our dollar has declined, while our debt has risen to record levels. We are in an unsustainable downward spiral and we must act fast. We have witnessed the impact here in the district with falling or stagnate home sales, Amgen laid off 100’s of employees, Countrywide’s fall to near ruin, which affected 100’s of people who live here in Ventura County. The cost of goods and services has far outpaced inflation. For America to be a beacon of hope again in the world, a model of democracy, we must restore our middle class and become strong and secure again here first. It begins in our own back yard."

This is an easy one. GIVE MARY SOME MONEY.

1. Elton Galleghly is a local DOUCHEBAG/WINDBAG who has
been steadily marching toward fascism as long as I can remember.

Give this Mary chick some $$$$$$ and get rid of the Repuke asswipe. I guess I shouldn't call him that. It's an insult to true asswipes.

2. Thank you for mentioning my district!
We've been stuck with Gallegly for 20 years. I know Mary and she's awesome. :bounce:

3. I am a volunteer for Mary's campaign
and how great it is to see this thread!

Look a little closer at the photo above -- that's a big, gorgeous peace sign that Mary wears around her neck.

If you can spare a few bucks, send them her way. Peace.

5. Send her money and keep this rolling
She can win this district with strong financial support. This is a great year with opportunity wide open. Gallegly has demonstrated a terrible voting record and blind support of the criminal Bush/Cheney administration. While constantly in favor of Bush mandates, Gallegly has been virtually silent around the district. Only recently is he beginning to rumble as he is facing an election. He needs to go and we need to put someone that will work in Congress.

Go Pallant!

6. Mary Pallant
Will get a buck from me. She represents a great district. This cycle is ripe with downticket opprotunities, and I urge California, my native home, to organize and take advantage of the high level of interest in the process this time around! Yes California is Blue, but not take for grated Blue. CA went to Bush One, also twice to Reagan and once to Ford. All those electoral votes to a Republican. It can only happen again if Democrats let it happen.

7. I already sent her money, but she needs a lot more
Gallegly is a right-wing nutjob who really needs to retire. Let's help Mary Pallant give him a retirement party.

9. Mary is from my neighborhood. This is a district
where middle class people routinely vote against their self-interest by re-electing Gallegly. The use of the term "rubber stamp" to describe him couldn't be more accurate. I have long maintained that if they are going to continue sending the idiot back to DC, the voters in this district should go to Staples and buy a 1.99 rubber stamp instead. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper and just as effective.

Gallegly's margins of victory in the last several elections:

2006 (the year he anncounced he was retiring and then renaged when the repukes couldn't find a suitable replacement in time): Gallegly 62.1% Jill Martinez (Dem) 37.9%

2004 Gallegly 62.9% Brett Wagner (Dem) 33.9% Stuart Bechman (Green) 3.2%

2002 Gallegly 65.2% Fern Rudin (Dem) 31.8% Gary Harber (Libertarian) 3.0%

Gallegly's margin of victory has been shrinking, but unless the voters of this district seriously wise up, we're going to be stuck with him for yet another two years.

I wish Mary well, though. She has my vote and what little I can afford to contribute.

10. This is OUR YEAR
We need to push hard, get out the vote, and donate what we can. I strongly believe we now have the right candidate, Mary Pallant, and it is the right time.

Democrat voter registration is up. This country has gone on a fast downward spiral under Bush and Gallegly has clearly supported that for the last 7+ years at every downward turn. Folks are tired of the Republican shenanigans in government. It's our time to give Gallelgy and Bush the door. Push.

12. His biggest claim to fame is going on raids with the INS to
get his base riled up about illegal aliens and his picture in the paper. Other than that I can't think of a single thing he has done. We could use a new Rep.

13. I gave
Mary what I could. I'll give more when I can. This is my district, and Gallegly has consistently pissed me off. I cannot believe that we continue to elect him.

14. "away from administrators sitting miles away in a cubicle making decisions about your health..."
mary needs to add a key hyphenate to that statement:

Single Payer will return the care back over to your doctors and hospitals and away from administrators sitting miles away in a cubicle making PROFIT-BASED decisions about your health and well being.
