In Chicago, a Volunteer Group Offers Students Safe Passage
"....Since the beginning of the school year, 24 public school students here have been murdered, most by gunfire. None was killed on school grounds but most lost their lives in their neighborhoods, sometimes on the way to class or the trip home. The youngest victim was a 7-year-old girl, waiting for an afternoon snack at a fast food drive-through with her father...."

24 a year ? and 33 student deaths last year ? That is indeed a huge number .

I suppose outlawing guns would not have saved those children's life (~sarcasm~)

1. No, outlawing them
probably would not have saved their lives. The people who did the shooting obviously were not law abiding citizens and like everything else that is outlawed.. would have got their guns on the black market.

3. Furthermore, the only possible way to effectively "outlaw" handguns is through a process of
confiscation.

Try it. It's not only unconstitutional, but the attempt very likely will end with the confiscators getting shot.

7. Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
There are great and amazing sites all over Chicago, especially along the lake front.

The city certainly has its bad parts, but chances are you won't run into any trouble in the touristy parts of the city.

5. my niece in Atlanta just wrote last week that....
her daycare director's daughter's boyfriend, 16 years old, was gunned down and killed after a school altercation off site. They live in East Cobb County, so this was especially foreign territory to her and frightening that it hit close to home with her own child (and that was only through a much removed aquaintance). She was so shook up she wrote to a bunch of us via email wondering what we could do to make it stop? I just shook my head.

Apparantly, those who don't live in the inner part of the city haven't been paying too much attention. Once it hits your own backyard, you wake up pretty darn fast.

6. Hand guns are illegal in Chicago.
So I bet none of those murders occurred as a result of hand gun fire...

8. OP is just another flame bait thread
This shit gets old, doesn't it?

Guns are legal and are not going away. After the SC rules in favor of gun owners in June, the Chicago gun ban is next on the hit list.
