The Waxman Committee’s Hearing on Abstinence-Only Sex Ed
April 26, 2008 · No Comments

Over the past decade, the infinitely wise Federal Government has sunk 1.3 billion tax dollars into ideologically correct abstinence-only sexuality “education” for America’s youth. The cheerful result is that millions of young Americans have been wisely lied to about sex, and so many of them nowadays know only enough about sex to get themselves, or their friends, pregnant, infected, and miserable.

Yet, you would be wrong to imagine everyone likes the current state of affairs, for some Americans are, frankly speaking, sourpusses.

This past Wednesday, the sourpusses among us were led by US Representative Henry A. Waxman, chairperson of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Waxman launched a Committee hearing that actually presumed to question the wisdom of federally funding abstinence-only sexuality education.

I spent two or three hours this morning watching the official government video of the hearing and was appalled. Folks were actually talking about de-funding the Federal Government’s abstinence-only programs.

1. It should be defunded! What the hell does the Fed. Gov't have to do
with sex ed? It shouldn't have ANYTHING to do with it at all! Has everyone forgotten what it means to be a parent? Perhapse the classes they should be having are "Parental Skills 101"!

2. If we get rid of abstinence-only, then millions of kids won't have anal sex until college.
Why does Waxman have to ruin everyone's fun?

3. I think every student should have the advantages of the sex ed program I had more than 30 years ago.
Our teacher taught and tested us on the most effective and least effective forms of birth control and their failure rates and the symptoms of STDs and their treatment, among other things. He wanted us to be able to choose when to become pregnant and how to remain healthy.

4. Defunding would be a good way to put McCain on the spot
and make him vote against defunding if he wants the fundie vote. He'd have to vote to sustain a veto if necessary.
